Don't second-guess your parenting, you might think they aren't grasping a lot or that you are just babysitting them but you are molding them. That boy gets more than you think he does. I raised five, the last two were home-schooled (by me, the father) as I ran my business from home. You have a golden opportunity with those kids, maybe even more important than the reading/writing/'rithmetic stuff. Even if they never work with wood and go into an intellectual field, the reasoning, critical thinking, DIY attitude, patience, perseverance, overcoming mistakes...All that is so much more important than most people think. It really is part of the reason society is failing these days. Bring those kids into the shop more! Slow down and enjoy these years, they truly don't last forever. You blink and that boy will be off to college and your daughter will be getting married. Trust me, I lived through it.

It is a beautiful piece, one I particularly feel as I have wanted to build Norm Abram's trestle table since that show originally aired. Half my lifetime almost. I just showed my wife your table and revisited Norm's table and we have determined I am going to finally do it in the next year or so. So thank you for the inspiration.

Andy, it's hard to fathom how carpenters in the time of Jesus were able to make wood furniture. The table looked great. High glue is made from animals so that makes sense it was used in olden times and continues to be used today. Andy have you ever done a short tutorial on how to sharpen chisels?

TIP: whenever i have a chisel line dig into the wood, an easy fix/counter is to just score the fiber with a box knife. It will stop the action in its tracks.

@@bilalelhlimi2728 There is all kinds of evidence. The Romans had full sized tables during that time period and they would have been found in Jerusalem. The Jews would traditionally eat reclined, but would have been accustomed to sitting at tables too. What did Jesus do with the tables of the money lenders? ;-)
