White pebble paths can look really nice...when new! But our experience is that they are a really BAD idea in the long term.

confirms exact problems I have now with stones. you have helped me decide that concrete is the way to replace them. thanks

Thanks for this John. I can think of little worse than mowing and a stray pebble hits one of my grandchildren. I agree pebble paths can look great when new but the romance ends quickly. I have lived in a house where pebbles had been used extensively. Concreting as you have done is practical and the variance in design provides interest, Well done , mate!

I will be trying large flat stones filled in with concrete for a balance between natural look and low maintenance.

Just trawling through your channel having not long subscribed. Some real great content, so thank you! I've just removed an old broken pond in our place that was filled full of gravel with decorative pebbles. It's a nightmare clearing them all up, before I return this area to a productive patch. Good point! Was thinking of putting in white rocks in pathways, like you said, it looks nice. I need to explore other paving materials. Thanks for posting the video.

I must agree with you...I have pebbles paths in my garden and they have all the problems you mention. In my case I don't like cement so I am going to try woodchips as my garden is not so wet as in your situation...thank you for sharing

Gravels work well if you put down a good underlayment and border. I’ve had no issues with mine for several years.

Very informative, thank you! I am considering small river rocks around the pavers. After watching this, maybe not

Ours aren't any trouble. The leaf blower cleans them of leaves quickly. Pebble paths are quick and easy (and cheap) and look great. Also no-one can sneak up to your house. Try walking silently on pebbles!

I feel you I’m in the UK and pebbles in my landscaping become very old very quick. I much prefer the clean aspect of concrete too

Agreed. Pebbles are difficult to maintain, but the concret path is not good look. I am still in a search of something easy to maintain and meanwhile good look!

I thought the whole point of a pebble path was the looks, that concrete may well now be very easy but it looks ugly, a far cry from a garden path, it looks more like a city pavement, not for me....

Yeah, I understand and accept the practicality of concrete but it's not attractive. The pebble path is far more easy on the eye, even with the weeds.

I made the pebble path mistake too. What a nightmare. When I see people looking at those bags of rock in the big box stores, I always warn them. Love the idea of the ferns pressed in the concrete. Very pretty!

Great little post...I know you mentioned that adding reinforcement to the concrete with it being as thin as it is could cause more problems? is that with rebar? You should try mixing in fibreglass to the concrete for extra strength instead My Friend...Much Love and Peace...

To Homesteading: If the concrete doesn't crack and if it's cheaper,. then, very well and good.

The leaves will fall no matter what type of path you have. Gardens all require maintenance which included getting rid of leaves and weeds. If you want a garden you have to prepare to put in some work maintaining it. I guess that leaves don't fall on your new path.

@Luke Warm Howdy I've had a neighbour who used to burn weeds with a lpg can mounted on a dolly. Would you think that would work on pebble pavements?

FROM A PROFFESIONAL LANDSCAPER LIKE MYSELF- When making a path with pebbles and square paver like in this video follow these steps even though initially hard work, it will last a long time. 1. Edge out the path you want and use some type of edging material on the edges to create a nice border, apply plenty of weed killer on a dry day, use industrial weed blocker 3 layers, don't use cloth, put down atleast 3 inches of rock/ gravel or whatever you want to use, apply a clear coat spray on the pavers for easy cleaning.
