I'm with you! Chris's videos are always so informative. Making a router plane is on my winter to-do list. I have been collecting large Allen keys to make the plane iron out of, but Veritas (i think) sells the metal parts as a kit. I prefer to make my own plus it's more fun that way. If you're looking to improve your hand tool skills there are a couple of great Japanese Joinery books on Amazon that is a lot of fun to do and challenging too. I try to learn a new joint every month or two. Good luck!

awesome, thanks. I love the idea of a daily 1 take video. regarding setting your marking gauge, don't forget that most rules (e.g. combination squares) have indented marks so you can put the blade of your gauge in, for example 1/4" and then the fence against the edge of the ruler and voila.

This was very informative and useful. It also illustrates to potential customers how time consuming and skill intensive this kind of manufacturing is. We need to value a handmade object. It costs a lot, but you have an object that will last you the rest of your life, and the person who made it breathed soul into the material by taking the time and care to make it properly. We should be surrounded by beautiful and well made objects, not cheap junk.

Several useful tips. Something that comes to mind would be to make 2 or 3 different blade width router planes, set them to the same depth, and use progressively wider blades (maybe with a skew) to get to final size. I haven't tried this, it just came to mind. Thanks much. Thumbs up to crush a troll.
