Another way to get the right gap for the lamination is to use a pattern or flush trim router bit the same size as the total thickness of lamination. This does entail first having a template for the original curve. Use this template to rout a groove, then a rough cut down the middle. Rout each piece with the flush trim bit again and there you have two halves. This means you can make jigs of any size you need as long as you have the initial curves. I have templates for various curves for putting laminated inlays into cutting boards. Excellent video, keep up the good work.

That looks great. As others have mentioned some weight in the base could help the tipping issue. Personally I'd router out a rebate and fill it with readily available lead shot ballast, mixed with epoxy or polyester resin. Then maybe some felt to hide it.

what a great project again. Question to anyone that can help: I don't have a bansaw. Would I be able to make that arc-cut (for the template) with a jig-saw? I know it wouldn't be as accurate, but do you guys think it would work?

I really like this one, Keith. One thought on making it less prone to tipping... I reckon having two base pieces would be the way to go. Each one slightly narrower than the one you made, so they almost parallels the two pieces on top. Looking forward to your next. :-)

Great vid as always. Just a thought, could you us the band saw to cut the stripes? My thinking is the blade width is narrower then the table saw blade, therefore less material is wasted?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It would definitely waste less wood - I was losing 3mm of wood for every 1.2mm yielded. However the bandsaw doesn't cut so cleanly or accurately so I think it would result in more gaps, which is why I opted for it.

Not sure you needed the extra cut on the curve of ya form it would have given you the gap you needed when clamping .
@mr_bojingles5891
@mr_bojingles5891 5 жыл бұрын
The extra cut is needed as these are become two different radii (inner and outer curve) when you insert the pieces for lamination. Probably not a big problem when the thickness is only a few mm but start going over 15mm and you get gaps in the curves.
