Making A Heat-Reflective Blanket

With the temperature starting to drop, here's a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to make a heat reflective blanket for your cat...for cats in recovery after s/n surgery...and any cat needing a bit of warmth...

Tacking it down all over by running a few lines of stitching is a great tip or it will warp and bunch.

Thats great info, thank you. I think everyone should know about the wrong way to use an emergency blanket. Sometimes it can do more harm than good...

Can you put batting on both sides so that it's reversible and less crunchy? Have you tried Insulbrite?

wWhich side do you place up? Do you put the batting side down, or up? Or did I miss that there is batting on both sides of the mylar layer?

Put the Mylar between the sheet and blanket on your bed. Never have to use a electric blanket again! 👍

My problem is all of my stray cats that I take care of in the winter time don’t like that crinkly noise so I might just have to use straw or figure something else out

There’s that bubble insulation stuff you can get at the hardware store with a shiny side that they use for insulation that might work better

Thought you might be helpful... They say do not use a regular blankets.clothing ,rags etc.. I might try the mylar blanket under the straw...Also I use Great Stuff to insulate the outside of the bowl for the water and food . It helps the food and water from freezing and the cats tongue from sticking to the bowl on freezing days. Also use warm water on very cold days it freezes really fast. Straw-Not Hay-for Outdoor Cat Shelters. An outdoor cat house filled with straw-not hay-will keep your cat warm and cozy during the winter. ... Straw, the dry leftover stalks from harvested crops, repels moisture, making it the best bedding for outdoor cat shelters.

Only ever ever use straw, never hay. Remember stray for strays. Hay can get wet and freeze the cats. Straw is used specifically for animal bedding. But yes, use this in the cat houses. K & H makes outdoor heated pads you could use also.
