Thanks to Activision for sponsoring this video. Check out the new season of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone 2.0 today by clicking the link - bit.ly/3USFTng #sponsored #COD_Partner #modernwarfare3 #MWII . Making the Ashika Island Katana. We made this Samurai Sword in as traditional methods as possible. The fittings were the only thing made from modern material and we found an interesting way to make those as well. The #katana blade is made from Tamahagane from Japan. This build was created by Ilya Alekseyev and filmed and edited by Matt Stagmer (Stalkertron).

A metal worker myself, I can confidently declare, that if I had all of this man's equipment, machinery, facilities, and a thousand years, I could stand by an anvil smacking and cursing the entire time and still not create anything nearly half as fine as the blades that he turns out regularly. It's a rare thing for us humans to find what we are truly phenomenal at. I would liken this to Michael Jordan's command of basketball, Freddie Mercury's musical gifts, or Colin McRae's prowess behind the wheel. Simply masterful.

@@plainnsimplme you're right, I like blades and metal arts, and I like some neat and precise piece, with all the technicality and modern tool. So glad you have found a balance between sponsorship for projects, and bringing back the old skills. Great project as always!

Ilia you are by far the best artist/blacksmith in the game. I am entranced by watching you create and love that you followed the old ways to accomplish this. I am a fan of COD but my heart is in everything bushido down to the creation of these magnificent pieces of art. Well done!

I always enjoy watching Ilya at work, but this was truly amazing. Not only did he respectfully marry the ancient with the modern, but he creates a truly beautiful work of art. Matt an Ilya have created a great channel here, and this sword proves that. Well done Ilya and thank you for sharing your insight and knowledge.

I love when you do tamahagane, seeing raw material being refined into something so beautiful, as opposed to welding different steels together and welding them
