Do you like the softer leather look? Or more firm (saddle) style leather? I don't usually work with soft tempered leather like this. It's still full grain vegetable tanned leather, but it's MUCH softer, more like oil tan. I had to do things a little differently. Lots of re-inforcement and doubling up! I think i'll stick to bridle/harness that I usually work with. It's always fun to try new things though.

Veg tan and soft? How Wtf? I am confused. Does it bleed oil? Stain? Scratch resistant?

@@Sayid112 I think it wet-milled veg tan, I have some and it is very soft.

That’s a high quality bag and you left meat on the bone for room for creative expression. This format limits us on what form and function a high quality bag can be used with but I def think your making quality. Any time I see turned edges on a soft “ molly chrom soft style bag .. my skiver has to be adjusted and every pass is sometimes a nail bitter until I’ve wasted a fair $5 worth lol . Saddle briddle is fun and tooling is the touch of a bored artist lol. You’re videos have been a good thing for the community .. 🙏🏻

I don't like the shiny "plastic" look I'm finding locally. Some of the pullup oil skin is gross.

Looks awesome! Here's a design tip: when I made my own duffle I used a RiRi zipper pull with a big round metal loop, the kind you can put your finger through. I didn't think about it much, it was the only one I had left. But when I actually used the duffle for the first time to fly overseas, when it was fully closed the zipper pull was perfect for putting a small padlock through it and through the strap loop :)

Thanks dude, i learn something every video. I just bought the Fabricator with the leatherworking package, first of all if it wasn't for you i doubt i would have this machine, you alone convinced me. Secondly the fact the leatherworking package was available as an upgrade with everything i will need is amazing. Thank you for working with them to create that... and btw that bag is awesome man. Cheers to you and sailrite!

Not a big fan of your new format, your previous videos were much more informative and entertaining! To answer your question yes, the softer look is good too!!

That is a great looking bag, and the softer leather gives it more of a "Coach" brand look. I have some questions about the shoulder straps though. It looks like they would always be on the ground under the bag any time you went through it; is there any mechanism there that I'm not seeing to have them swing out to the sides keeping them out of the way? Also, how would you go about modifying the upper attachments to allow the straps to detach completely? Loops to a carabiner?

That tape you use before sewing is pretty cool. I always tell people not to use the heavy duty glue if at all possible. It’s absolutely terrible for you. I got a water based glue from Tandy thats made in Italy and it’s non toxic. Smells like Elmer’s glue. It obviously doesn’t work as well as the heavy duty stuff, but that’s not needed unless you’re making shoes. The Tandy glue or this tape is perfect to just hold it together before sewing.

Hey there! I was hoping to get some feedback on leather sewing machines. It will be my first sewing machine for leatherwork and mainly make wallets, guitar straps, and some bags. I have narrowed my search down to 2 cylinder arm machines... Techsew 4800 Pro or the Leather Machine Co. Cobra Class 26. What are your thoughts on these two machines. I have heard great things about both but personally hate the look of the Leather Machine Co sewing machines. They look like they are straight from the 1970s and look outdated. But if they perform then that is what matters I suppose.

Hey guys I like your work ,but a little bummed coz u use a sewing machine to do it all. Which means it’s not hand made. Wish u could show how to do satchels all with hands no machines . That would be fabulous. I’m trying to put a zipper in the top but doing by hand at the ends .. it’s way to thick and I’m stuck trying to make it work currently.. help? 🫣 Thx from Australia Niree 🎉

Thanks for the video! What brand of Motor do you use for the sanding drum? What brand is that belt skyver? What brand is that sewing machine? They look great, and I would like to start building my tools for more larger/faster projects just like this.

Thanks for the video! Where do you get the thread you use to sew leather with your sailrite machine? I’ve typically bought the thread I use with my machine through sailrite directly but I’m looking for other good sources (ideally with a broader color selection) as well. Appreciate if you can share!

Question- can the sailrite not handle when you sew the end pieces on? Curious why you switch to the other machine. Thinking of buying a sailrite but want to know its limitations.
@Skinwalker_skinny
@Skinwalker_skinny Жыл бұрын
I don’t own a sailrite fabricator but he switched to the cylinder arm because it’s easier to sew that seam on a cylinder arm rather than a flat bed machine. It’s plenty doable on a flat bed machine, there’s just advantages and disadvantages to both. If you’re only to get one for leather goods, I personally recommend a cylinder arm as you can add a flat bed table to it but it’s still not as great as a flat bed machine.
@whitandpark
@whitandpark Жыл бұрын
Evan nailed it on the head. I usually prefer sewing on a flatbed until I need to sew a bag gusset. The angle is super important for getting around tough corners on heavy leather. So if you plan on doing lots of bag work, Especially with rigid leather, I'd get a cylinder arm. If the body of your bags are lightweight leather or canvas the flatbed will be fine
