*Making the stamp was the goal of this video,* not actually using it! I'm not a leather maker.

I haven’t moved into lasering leather yet but want to eventually for products such as wallets and coasters because it’s just a rich looking and feeling material, so I appreciate any content you do produce related to leather. (Even if you aren’t a leatherworker.)

Use your drill press as a press. A lot of branding irons are intended to be mounted in a drill press. Glue it to a wood or metal backer to distribute weight and make a precise easily repeatable embosser if you need to batch out a bunch.

That wasn't the goal of this video, and I don't plan on actually making these.

Thanks, but the goal of this video was simply to make the stamp and see how it machines on the laser.

Came across a rubber stamp laser diode vid, did not think about Delrin. Going to try this on my 2.5W, got Delrin from my CNC mill days.

Should work fine, just take a lot longer.

Thanks for video. I have been carving Deldrin on CNC. It works really well and a lot easier to machine than Perspex. I have not yet tried on laser engraver. I will try on both blue diode and IR 1064.

Rich, first off thank you for another informative video. Hey, you have a woodworking bench in your video shop and I can clearly see a bench vise on the end of it. Try embossing the leather using that vise.

I didn't think of using that vice! But that wasn't really the goal of this video.

Just a heads-up. Heating Delrin releases formaldehyde and something called carbon black, both supposedly carcinogenic. I use Delrin a lot, turn it on my lathe (cuts beautifully), but made the mistake one time to push a heated steel rod into a piece of Delrin. OMG, the smoke almost killed me. It was really nasty. It burned my nose, throat, and got into my lungs. Obviously, lasering does not burn that much Delrin at a time, but people might want to make sure to have great exhaust systems.🙏🏼

I have been toying with laser cutting leather stamps. MDF works well but I don’t expect it would last; especially applied to damp leather. Of course if that’s what you have got, it only takes a few minutes to make a replacement. I have been expecting acrylic to be a longer lasting and water resistant alternative. I do have to sand the un-etched surface of the acrylic to get it smooth again after the laser etching since it deforms adjacent to the cuts. I haven’t used the stamps made from either for enough repetitions to be more than guessing about the longevity of either. I have been wondering what other hard plastic might work. Sounds like Delrin is the one to try next. I did figure out early on that (in Lightburn) you want to use the “Ramp outer edge” function under the “Advanced” tab in the fill mode cut settings editor, to add a bit of slope to the sides of your stamp cuts. That makes especially fine features in stamps a lot more durable.

Thanks for the great info! PROBLEM, I keep flaming on vector cuts. I have Universal VLS.4.60. 50 watt 2.0 lens. No air assist. 1/8 inch black Delrin , Power set to High, speed 20%. Per your video, maybe I should try power low and speed low….spent several hours so far trying to figure this material out.

POM, The stuff V wheels are made from. I see the same wavy pattern in that first engraving that people complain about from 3D printers. Guess it's a universal issue.
