I've been making movies since 2003. I've produced over 80 features, directed over 20 . They are all very low budget. You've probably never heard of any of them. Yet, they are in the marketplace and I make my living solely off the exhibition of them. I have no day job, don't do for hire gigs. I make what the movies I've made earn. Today, I'm gonna take you through my journey as an indie filmmaker, talk about how I got here. How I distribute and market my films and will take questions throughout.

As Hollywood continues to fumble the bag on big budgets, more people are turning to Tubi and will watch tons of small indie films. Esp as AI comes along it will help lower the barriers on special FX and distribution becoming more democratized

How do you pay yourself? Is this a side hustle? It doesn't sound like it. I have a low-budget movie but I can't see myself getting paid from my movie anytime soon no matter how successful it is.

This is how I make my living. Revenue comes in from multiple sources from the movies. Platforms like Amazon pay for rentals. Some platforms pay up front for licenses other split revenue. Platforms like Tubi and youtube pay from ad revenue.

@@JHorton Are you paying anyone else? Paying for lights? Makeup? Camera? I have done shorts and paid no one but the shorts aren't making any money. But the shorts are a 3-day shoot and a feature is more like 3 months. The math just doesn't add up for me.
