Have to use that surface grinder attachment more! Mosaic requires flat, clean and all the decarb removed if you want it to look really good. All those silver colored tile outlines are the decarb.

looks great. i forget what the full process is but you can make the tiling lines disappear through heating the blade multiple times before heat treating. i do try to share some knowledge with you each video, and you can take it or leave it lol. you advancement continues.
@JPsBladeworks
@JPsBladeworks Күн бұрын
Lol i appreciate the knowledge. The carbon migration is what helps blend those lines in and its done with heating the knife up and having the carbon migrate past the lines. The reason they are white is due to carbon loss when forging since those lines used to be the outside of the billet before being forge welded together.

if you put the blade in a vingar(or deluted hydrochloric acid) it will take the scale of it while dont dmg the material before grinding.. it saves time and money(grinding belts ive far longer) sry fro the bad english XD greetings from germany

Nice save! Good practice for tiling, but when you end up doing mosaics, as I'm sure you know, you'll want to grind in the profile, not hammer it, as it will distort the pattern horribly.
@JPsBladeworks
@JPsBladeworks Күн бұрын
I saw that its was good to forge it some so the the pattern follows the curves on the blade but definitely not as much as i did. I did it for the sake of research to see if on this particular knife it made any difference.
