Wow this is super cool! What a crafty person you are to do all of that! And having your own laser cutting machine is definitely a plus! All very nicely explained! I see some parts of the process are quite labour intensive and repetitive but it’s all worth it for the end result! Taking it straight out of the laser cutter into the organ and voila! You can play a tune!

Hi Ian, Yes I really enjoyed your video and learned a lot. I have taken up the idea of using baking paper which is easy to come by and easy to cut...(with my knife!). But, I am wondering whether you have any clues regarding the joining of this paper. (say, in the event of a needed repair..) I have yet to find a method of sticking it to itself. Tape won't do it for me....

@@johnhutchison6144 I've not needed to do any repairs myself, but I guess being "non-stick" it's going to be difficult to join.

I'm guessing that one method might be to punch some holes near the edges on both sheets then apply tape top and bottom...so that the tape sticks to itself through the holes.... I did Google it and one fellow made the point that the roll when you buy it has been taped. The manufacturer wouldn't tell him what it was....

Hello Ian. Great video which was sent to me last week. I figured out most of the routine and even cut a short piece of a roll for my John Smith organ. Would you be willing to tell me what the settings are in Lightburn to get the laser to return to the start at the end of each page. I made a 6 page and a 25 page file of two different rolls. I still have to make something like your paper roller but my laser is low to a table top (solid state 20W) so I am designing something to feed the paper across the table top and through the laser. frame. Thanks!

Hi William, I have two lasers (a 60W CO2 and a 5.5W diode). I use LightBurn with these and they both automatically return to the starting position after completing a job. I'm not sure what the setting is to do this, sorry. Maybe a question for the LightBurn forum? However, feel free to drop me an email if you would like me to check any settings or any other info. Bravo ! Very good method to prepare and cut, from the midifile to the laser cutter ! Can you the DXF/SVG file to cut the box you are using for the paper on the laser cutter ? Thank you !
