Making a shrink pot - part two, the lid

In part two of this mini series on making a shrink pot, you will see a method for making the lid out of green wood.
You can watch the different steps in the process and the tools I use. It is not a step-by-step instruction, but you just might get inspired and start to carve one yourself! Or perhaps you might see this one part of the process you can incorporate in your own production to make it more efficient or fun.
In case you have any experiences yourself, that might help me improve my skills, please let me know in the comments!
The following tools were used: a Pax 3 foot one man crosscut saw, a froe with handmade mallet, Gränsfors Bruk’s single bevel carving axe, old drawknife, carbon paper, pencil, sheet of paper, Bahco jigsaw 301, drill brace with 10 mm drill, old wide chisel, Mora 106 wood carving knife, WoodTools spoon knife, Mora 120 wood carving knife, Silky Gomboy folding saw and a template for drawing a 10 mm circle.

you could make them out of metal as well. They're called hold fasts. But a wooden one is very easy to make and works really well.

Thanks. For me the fulfillment is so much greater when working with just hand tools. And next, the intense and repetitive motion combined with the attention to the material that is being used results in a more quiet mind. Wouldn't want to go back to power tools.

Prachtig om te zien hoe jij het deksel maakt voor de shrinkpot. Grappig pauzemoment bovendien.

Dank je! Pauze op zijn tijd is ook belangrijk. Ik wil natuurlijk wel eerlijk alles in beeld brengen. (De wc-scène heb ik er wel uitgelaten)

It's a Robin Wood spoon knive, from the UK. I think they are available in the USA as well from selected shops. If you can't find these shops online, you could send WoodTools an email and they'll probably know.

Yeah, I somehow expected that 😉. Just wasn't in the mood for elevator music when I edited the video. But yes, only carving sounds might have been fine as well.

Well, the music, that's always hard. Sometimes I experiment a bit with, not just with wood, but also with the music. I personally thought it was a nice addition, but of course we do not all have the same taste in music. Thanks for the compliment though!

@@hetnoesteleven my plesier. (I speak Afrikaans). You're right - you cant please all the people, all the time. However, it seems to be fairly universal, that folks love the working sounds on an interesting project whereas music enjoyment is entirely individually based. I also like your shavehorse, the rustic-ness for me, is perfection.
