I feel your pain. Forty years of practicing dentistry has graced me with excellent dexterity, but leatherwork still has a learning curve and it's own unique tools to master before our work will look like his work!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd really like to hear the thoughts and opinions from everyone (if Corter Leather can chime in, that would be awesome) on a basic tool setup for a person just starting out. Any other words of wisdom or direction to quality resources would be greatly appreciated.

The leather store in my town sells off cuts. It’s around 20€ per kg (more or less depending on the quality and type of leather). It’s super nice to try leather work without busting the bank.

On amazon I buy about 3 lbs (about 1.4kg) of leather scraps for $20 (€18). You don’t get to see what you’re getting beforehand but i usually get a variety of around 4-6 large pieces

Thank you for your videos. I am not a leather artist but wished I had picked it up in the 70s when first introduced to it. Ah...well. Anyways I am a visual artist that works in acrylic paints and saw you use your awl to put the dye on the edges of the leather and thought that was brilliant. I tried it last night with a 1/4" wooden sign I am making. I used my awl and some gold paint to do the edges...fricking awesome results. It is sooooooooooooooooooo much easier than trying to paint a straight line on the edge! Thank you. Thanks for the videos. Cheers and happy holidays to you, your family and your extended social network of followers and supporters.
