The sounds are so good... this was just kind of playing in the background because I thought the device looked cool, but I found myself getting into your track as you were coming up with it. It turned out to be a good song, I thought it kind of like one of those underwater level osts from a childhood videogame or something. Nice work.

Excellent tune. I have come to love the workflow that the Op-1 and the field set you into and I learned something from this video! I would like to know what the blue book is that's half shown to the left of the screen? I want one, as far as I can tell.
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree, the workflow really clicks you into a creative focus, and having all the different sounds and engines only a click away really boosts my speed of composition. The book is called Pocket Operations, a book of drum patterns across various genres/styles, by Paul Wenzel.

The production of this video was really good! I have a request can we see a video of you making a single cinematic song with synth but gentle and calming but with a theme of underlying unknown danger it surfaces slowly and then we notice, and the panic and sense of fear it causes. If that makes sense? Sorry if it's too much the artist in me can't stop thinking bout it 😅

how did you do the quiet overdub? what do you mean there? interesting!
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
So when I recorded the first arpeggio line, I had the recording input volume relatively high. Then for the overdub, I turned the recording volume level much lower, so that you still heard some of the envelope tweaks, but they fit much lower in the mix compared to the original line.
@tendingtropic7778

Also, are you playing the first parts on a metronome? it almost sounds like a kick drum. And regarding drums, is that a stock drum kit?
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you’re right, I had the metronome going in the background for the first part of the song. I believe the drums were from a lofi pack on op1.fun.

1:19 are you adding reverb to the track after recording to tape? or is this a master reverb for the whole song?
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
In that instance I am adding master reverb to the whole tape. If you want to use reverb on a track/sound, you need to have it active during recording, once it's baked in you can no longer edit track/instrument effects.

@@musicfromdusk just curious: why run audio into your interface vs just running a USB-C and keeping the signal digital the whole way?
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
@prestonnunez7 That's a great question that I don't have a great answer to. I've exported tapes/full tracks from OP-1 into my DAW, but have never run audio directly out of the usb before. Typically I am running the opie into reverb or delay pedals so the analog signal path is necessary, but in this case, usb would have worked fine.

What’s the cow about??
@musicfromdusk
@musicfromdusk Жыл бұрын
The cow effect (CWO in the OP1) acts as a kind of frequency modulation delay, which can give a cool warble and grit depending on what kind of sound you apply it to.

Yeah, that's a valid perspective. Value is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I haven't felt any significant limitations (I see the four track as a feature not a flaw) and it's fit in great with my workflow. But to each their own! At the end of the day, it comes down to the music, and does the gear facilitate in the music writing/creation process.
