I dont understand woodworking. I looked through KZfaq for a ship in a bottle video and picked you. I'm so glad I did. I still don't understand a darn thing, but watching a master craftsman at work is pure artistry, it's always beautiful. I'm subscribed and staying, I will never make a project and the workshop tour was 🥴😱💅🤳👀🙈😱😳🤯 scary, but thank you for your magnificent work. I really enjoy your channel.

Thank you for all the kind words Colleen. I hope that one day, you will consider giving some of these projects a try. I would highly recommend trying to make a ship in a bottle. There are very little tools required and the level of self satisfaction that they provide is astronomical. I hope you continue to enjoy the show and if you ever have any suggestions or requests as to something you would like to see made, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for tuning in

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. From the thumbnail, it looks like it is going to be great. I really appreciate how your seasonal projects are presented with enough time for your viewers to follow along and try building them. I also like the smaller projects that don't require a fortune to build.

Truth be told Jim, I actually made this last Christmas and didn't leave enough time to be able to post it and give time to make it so I delayed it's posting until this year to give folks enough time to make the project. I hope you like the final project as much as I do. Thanks for tuning in to the show sir and for taking the time to leave the kind words.

I’m not sure if I’ll have time this year but definitely going to build. Brings back great memories we have always had a advent calendar and then when we started having children my wife and I kept the tradition. This will make our children so happy and we can fill it with fun things other than just chocolates, all though chocolate is good too lol. Thank You. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great video and great project. Thanks for sharing. I've often been thinking of making a wooden advent calendar but I never came to that. So maybe now is the time to start. In spring we we'll have our first grandchild. Till she'll be three or four years old I should be able to complete it. Your detailed video for sure helps with it. The process isn't very difficult, it seems. But one has to make it very carefully and precisely. There are many opportunities to make mistakes.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 жыл бұрын
Mistakes are all part of woodworking Hans and while we have to be careful, as long as we learn from the mistakes, they were worth making. I hope you do try this project. It was a lot of fun and the results were awesome. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

After watching this I thought "Yep, gotta make a few for the grandkids!"... then found pretty much the same in the seasonal section of a local store. While homemade smacks of well earned bragging rights, it's hard to justify all the work for something that sells for about $50. It was such a disappointment to see and I thought 'Someone stole Kenny's idea and is profiting from it!" Still, I'm going to watch for next weeks show. I want the bragging rights! Cheers and thanks Kenny!
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 жыл бұрын
While you are right that you can find one similar to this and purchase it for about $50, the quality between the two is night and day with one, being cheap and mass produced and the other being made with care and made to last. It's a fun project either way Phin. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Love this Advent Calendar. Currently making 4 of these for the grandchildren. Can I ask what you use for the door hinge dowel ? Is it wood or metal ?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings Жыл бұрын
The door hinge dowels are wood Robert. Due to their length and their shear strength, it would take a lot of force to be able to break one of them. This year will be the 3rd year of use for this advent in my house and I can say that it is still going strong and still looking great. I'd love to see your advents when you are done. Please feel free to send me some photos. Thanks fort tuning in to the show and good luck on your projects.

@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 8 ай бұрын
It can be made of any solid wood Janine. A hardwood is best for this type of project. Maple, poplar, walnut etc. I would stay away from soft woods like pine and basswood though. They may not have the longevity that you would prefer. Thanks for tuning in and good luck on your project.

I like it!. What are your thoughts about using 1/4” Baltic Birch? I am not an MDF fan, but it would be fine for this project. I like the idea of doors, rather than drawers. I have seen some where they built 23 little drawers. You mentioned that you had some improvements over the one you saw. Did you mention the improvements? Or did I miss them in your narrative?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 жыл бұрын
1/4" birch plywood would be just fine Scott. Absolutely nothing wrong with that choice at all. As for the "improvements", I don't think I did mention them but the original didn't have a larger door for the 24th, the base wasn't shaped to be like "snow", there were no lights, the front of the house was just flat with no dimension at all. Basically, mine is much more detailed and festive. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

If MDF isn't your favourite stuff to work with, this idea would work just as well with any other species of wood. Using (or not using) MDF will not make or break this project. It the idea and the concept I demonstrate here, not the stock choice. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
