You should use bombs instead of ballast and throw them at an actual castle. I would love to see that.

You could try building a "Floating Arm Trebuchet", they are a bit more complex but are much more efficient than regular trebuchets.

The floating arm trebuchet loses the range advantage over regular trebuchet at very large scales, because the difficulty in construction of the drop channel and axle increases with size. A regular trebuchet is a better realistic war machine. However, a floating arm trebuchet is more efficient when built to a size of between one meter and five meters

Senior year of high school i made a trebuchet for physics and optimized it as much as a part time working student could afford. It was funny to see myself looking at certain elements thinking about "well you want the arm ratio to be 3:1" or the rope to either be positioned on the front end for a modern trebuchet or how it was for a classical trebuchet, but above all, there is an ideal weight ratio, and adding more weight does not simply correlate to further distance

I love Trebuchets, it's such an underated war tool. It's extremely simple to wrap your head around it and it performs like a beast. Seeing it in action is super satisfying too, how the individual rotations culminate in a extremely fast moving projectile and then recoil from the heavy weight swinging back and forth.

The trebuchet moves during launch. It means that some of the kinetic energy is wasted, which is obviously not good. I believe that making the arm longer would fix the problem, but still, great contraption ^^
@thefactorean91682 жыл бұрын
There are also grabbers that dont move
@joaogomes9405 Жыл бұрын
He should have made the arm longer on the sling end and shorter on the counterweight end.
@rustyrapp56732 жыл бұрын
Amazing content as always. I think (counterintuitively) you can get more distance simply by increasing the weight of the projectile. As I understand it, more weight in the projectile will take more energy from the counterweight. Meaning both the counterweight and the projectile will be moving slower, while the rig will move faster. The more energy you can take from the counterweight, the more energy you’ll have in the projectile, yielding possible increases in distance. But you’d have to ask Tom Stanton to be sure 👍

I think you can make a rngine with this. because when u launch, the platform moves at a speed that is coolfor it's size. so if you make it constantly spin without it launching the whole thing into the air with grabbers and balloon blocks that push down and some other stuff that give more downforce and traction, it might turn out pretty cool.

Honestly I don’t know how to describe it (it’s called a whipper arm trebuchet) but if you want to look it up the vids name is: Optimizing a Trebuchet by the channel: Tom Stanton I think it would be cool to try and design something in besiege using the ballast trick he used. Hope you don’t mind me sharing a vid name in your comments.
