Making an Axe Out of Leaf Spring!

3 жыл бұрынWe have forged our first axe ever. We used hardware store mild steel, leaf spring for high carbon steel, borax, a simple forge, and sweat. If you have any suggestions on how to make this better, leave it down in the comments. Thanks for watching.

hi, spring steel is hardened in oil, and tempered 180 - 220 C ( 1hour ) GOOD JOB :) NICE AXE

How does one forge weld steel without cleaning it. I have no problem welding clean steel but if I don't clean the scale off no amount of heat or hammering will weld them.

It's difficult, but if you have an oxygen free environment in the forge, you can do flux less forge welds. We did clean it but we didn't include that portion in the final video. Thanks for watching!

Хорошая работа. Эта работа натолкнула меня на мысль о том, почему у топоров позапрошлого века лезвийная часть вытянута в сторону топорища. Это результат приварки длинной полосы лезвия к узким обкладкам обуха.
