Thanks! Right on. I've been thinking of trying that for a while but couldn't find a decent way to repeatably attach the scales to it. Found a fairly easy solution and I'm happy with how it turned out. Cheers 👍

@@Simplelittlelife on the next set you can attach your pivot at each end and then let them cross over each other.

Nice, creative mods, I like it. The blade grind is pretty sweet as well. The scales look great with the concentric cut detail.

Love those scales! The concentric circle is a great look, but looks like it would provide a lot of grip without creating hot spots. Need to try that design on a large hunting blade.

I used to do the two drill method for bolts and stand offs. If you drill all the way through with a 1/4” drill bit, your counter sunk pocket will hold your scales to the handle.

@@Simplelittlelife you bet! I did it that way with the two holes for far too long. The stand offs won’t come off once everything is buttoned up!

I do not own that specific laser, but I realized while my laser cannot cut steel, it can burn away paint. I spraypaint bar stock and let the laser mark outlines, screw holes and whatnot. It's not neccessarily faster, but consistent.

You can use same method to create mask for etching some design later. Etching can be done either with iron chloride or with power supply+salty water+cotton in alligator clip method.

Awesome video man! I always have things to try out after watching your videos (router/bristles). Do you recall your power and speed settings on the laser?

Thanks buddy! Wait until you see the next build I'm working on😉. I was using the 40W head at full power for the makers mark and went to around 30% for marking Nitro-V because I wanted to just leave a mark and not any depression in the steel.

Thank you for the video.I tried the router technique on micarta handle scales once. I shredded the left side of my left thumb off. Would that work better on G-Ten because I would love know. Thank you for the video. I really enjoy them.

Oh man that's terrible. I hope you recovered okay. I have tried micarta and it is more grabby on the router. Having said that I think this is a fairly dangerous technique. I'm thinking of making a sled type thing that the scales could bolt to so my fingers could be much further away. Glad you like the videos and thanks for watching! Cheers 👍

With regards to the makers mark etching, what settings did you use?? Just the factory settings in the program for stainless steel??

What does the cryogenic do for the knife

It increases the hardness. Some stainless steel really benefit from Cryo and Nitro-V is one that does. Cheers👍

Do you have a link for the standoff and bolt combination you used? I've made a few kit knives from Woodcraft and find their bolt on hardware to be a pain in the ass.

I still dont understand the overnight liquid nitrogen deep. Once the blade is at nitrogen temperature atom no longer moves, so it cant occur any more transformation. Does it take all night for the blade to go down to the nitrogen temperature ?

No, it's just a timing thing. At the end of the day I was ready to put it in and just leave them till morning. I think an hour or so would be plenty.
