Andrew may have the best of these kind of channels out there. Rather spending more than half of a video talking over what he is going to do; he just list it of and show the process in video format, with some pointers here and there. Never forgetting the golden rule in a visiual medium - "show, don't tell". That's at least why I am sticking around - too see stuff get made and fixed and watch fine machines working.

Hey Andrew. I have an MBA and am currently unemployed because of this pandemic. I have nothing of any real value to offer. Skills like yours are what is in demand. I think there is far too much importance placed on a college education these days. Practical skills and trades and technical knowledge are far more useful to society. I saw one of your videos where you talked about how you got into this business. From mowing lawns up through what you are doing today. I dont know if you ever did a video on how you actually learned all your skills. Was it all by just doing it or did you take any trade classes in school? I hope you can make a video for some of your younger subscribers and viewers about how you learned all your skills. You are truly an inspiration. Many people can benefit from you sharing your story. One last thing to add. I remember some teachers I had used to ask kids, "Do you want to grow up to be a ditch digger?" Looking back, I wish I would have said yes. You have an honorable profession, sir.

Throw some hardfacing on it, you won't regret it and it's pretty cheap. Just wear a respirator when you're welding with that stuff. EDIT: I got a few more minutes into the video around the 30:00 mark, and... yep, you're gonna want some hardfacing on that edge and the bottom/sides where they scrape when you're digging. Inside probably isn't as important, maybe a bit right near the edge, but the outside would benefit from a nice grid or diamond pattern of hardfacing. Some good ol' Stoody 31. Yet another edit: After seeing 39:25 I retract my statement about hardfacing the inside not being important. Just go ahead and line that thing inside and out.

In our part of the world, this drainage system is called runnelling, the drain is a runnell. It is used to dewater swampland whilst not detracting from environmental values. I think you benefit from all the things that you DIY. Keep it up this an amazing build process and product. You are focused deliberate and confident as you proceed, and in these crafts, nothing is more useful or sacred.

Andrew Camarata saved my family..... Like many of millions of families, covid 19 got me laid off. With time on my hands, I began watching KZfaq and stumbeled on A.C.'s excavation jobs...I was hooked staying up all night watching him work jobs..... Then I watched the video of him and his skid steer with the front end mower..... The the light in my head turned on! I bought a used refurbished skid and a new mower.... Thanks to Andrew I now have a business mowing Acer's of grass and shrub (currently 27 acres) on private land along hiway 101 in world famous Silicon Valley California.... My bills are paid, my wife and daughter have health insurance, and I am booked with jobs through August.... I can't speak for anyone, but Andrew has skill and I'm proud of him and thankful for his videos.

@@AndrewCamarata Hi Andrew. I watched the video on chain saws and, again, learned a wealth on proper use. Thank you. I saw an episode on an National Geographic episode, "Life Below Zero" that showed a very large felled moose being dragged out of the river with a chain saw wench. You possess a very high skill level of "Engineering and Custom Manufacturing, and therefore, I would be willing to supply you with a chain saw so that you could do a DIY video on, "How to convert a chain saw into a wench". There is no doubt you would make a great video. Thank you Mr. Camarata. Robert in Central California.

My boys don't understand my fascination with this channel. They're only two Docs and a stray computer nerd, plus one actor! I guess that they have forgotten how we paid for it all and with fewer tools. Thank God for a granddaughter who has taken up the slack 🤣. Blessings from New Orleans. Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Dear @@NorroTaku I have even heard the rumour that there are some people left in this world that are still able to handle a paint brush manually so that there is no need for machinery or gas pressured rattle cans! ;-) Best regards, luck and health.

@@Chr.U.Cas1622 I thought that was a lost breed! it just takes so much longer doing it that way a roller is a good compromise I suppose

@@NorroTaku No, definitely not. There are even ones that clean and prime metal before putting on paint. 2) Yeah, I totally forgot. Usually it's the best way to use both, brush and foam roller (at least if the object is big enough). Sincerely yours

Imagine doing both of those drainage jobs just using a shovel and wheelbarrow, it would take days. I recall as a boy working for a general cargo transport company in NZ, a driver and i were sent to get a truck load of sand (3 yards) for a client. We shovelled the sand onto the truck, it was hard work. We also delivered large sacks of coal to customers and we carried the full sacks on our backs from the truck to the customers coal bins. Most of the associated truck loading and unloading work was done manually, no forklifts in those days. We earned our pathetic wages the hard way at that company and thought nothing of it. I was 17 when i started work on that job.

I used to design buckets for an attachment manufacturer and there were a few key points when designing this kind of bucket: -The angle of the V was specified by the customer, so we would do whatever they wanted... 60* and 90* being the most popular, but we would make the occasional 120* from time to time. -With any bucket, it's important to keep the angle between the 2 mounting pins and the tip of the teeth the same as the OEM bucket in order to preserve the same rotation when curling in or out. the distance between the pivot and the tip is also important to preserve break-out force. However on a swale bucket, you can cheat that a little because the cutting edge is so narrow and you're concentrating more power in that area... Making that arc a bit bigger allows you more capacity. -The sides of the bucket were raked in towards the back 3-5* to prevent the cheeks from sticking to the sides of the ditch. This avoids wasting machine power fighting that extra friction. All in all though, you did great!! You seemed to have fun building it and added new functionality to your machine... Good job dude!!

Awesome video. These project videos in the country sort of always show me that no matter how much work you put into a property, it will never be perfect. At some point you have to just be ok with some water pooling...some wet areas of a driveway...leaves building up...ect. You just get to it when you get to it. From one country property owner to the another...
