A quick overview of how I made the book Dogtooth Valley from start to finish.

for anyone going through the comments who can't afford to send the pages off to professional printers, you can make a zine yourself. all you need is to follow a 1-into-8 page template (you can also do more pages, up to 18) and print your design (b&w is usually cheapest) onto A4 paper. cut and fold and then you have your finished zine! if you wanted bigger sized paper, you can print two pages on A4 paper, fold each in half, and staple twice at the center seam of the stacked pages.

I'm using InDesign because I already have it for my dayjob. If I wasn't already immersed in the Adobe ecosystem I would go with Affinity Publisher. It's much cheaper and very similar

How did you find your editor? Where did you find your stock art?

I drew all the art, just not specifically for this, so I had a stockpile of doodles to use. My editor is Fiona Geist, a friend I know thru gaming who happens to be an award winning editor. I'm very lucky she agreed to work on this!

I use Adobe InDesign. I'm lucky enough to have access to it through my job. A more affordable layout software is affinity publisher. I've seen some nice layout done in Google docs even

I feel like this video really skips over the years of practice needed to acquire the level of artistic skill for what’s happening here. Feels more like a brag than a useful tutorial tbh. Which is fine, flex away, if you got it, flaunt it, etc.

Oh sorry for not figuring out how to put years of training in practice into a single video. I probably should have started recording when I took my first art class.
