■ Desk build continues, this time with the last component of the leg assembly, the small stretcher in between the front and rear leg. Angled wedged mortise and tenon joinery.
Next time I will be doing the long stretcher between the two sides assemblies and the two aprons under the top. The desk should take shape then after connecting and assemble all the pieces together.

Lovely work and incredible to watch! How did you judge the angle of your drillbit when you were making the mortises? That looks like something I would definitely screw up! also, is there a name for that tool you used to clean up the edges of the tenons? And those wedges just seem to appear super easy! That’s another area where I feel I’d really struggle! Inspiring to watch, cheers for posting!

Hey Adrian, really enjoying watching you go through this build. How much accuracy do you try to achieve when matching the angle of your wedges to your mortises when creating a wedged mortise and tenon?
@AdrianPreda
@AdrianPreda 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Conor, thanks! That's a good question, glad you ask. As you can see the wedge's angle is too big respect to that available bent created in the tenon. I just eyeball it on the shooting board and that's it. This was just for showing in the video for consistency and I made it just to one tenon on a rear leg. Probably for the others I may adjust it with a chisel for a sharper angle, will see. I do not care so much about the wedge matching perfectly for joinery that will be glued anyway. The glue, PVA type, will hold sufficient, the wedge even wide angle as it is will just extra protect it. On the other hand, if I were to make a joinery with no glue I will have spent more time matching the angles for sure. What I will adjust for the other tenons for sure is the width of those lateral splits to be just a hair wider than the wedge for design purpose.
