Truly a "Substantial" build Koss! Planning, cutting grinding, turning, drilling, tapping and welding all those pieces is as impressive as the finished product. Great Welding too! Love the leather wrapping and end cap. Like the Hulk says; "Smash"! Another beautiful piece for your record book, Koss. Thanks for always "Bringing It" to us!!

The morning star was typically a peasant's club on steroids... force multipliers with armor piercing potential. Something for the "little guy" to punch above his weight against armored opponents. Over time it was re-imagined and adopted by the military-proper; the ones you see in museums (and in this video) are examples of the design taken to its limits.
@wizrom3046
@wizrom3046 4 күн бұрын
It's primary use was to rip the plate armour off an opponent. The little spikes dig into the armour and the inertia of the club part rips the armour plate off its leather bindings. It was good against helmets too, to rip the helmet off the head or rotate it with great force.

For the spikes I would recommend you try and get soil penetrometer probe tips. The weld onto the bolt may be strong, but that would potentially be a weak point due to the inability to get the weld all the way to the middle of the bolt.

Excellent work, thank you for sharing! From the practical point of view, the wooden handle (oak?) might be a weak link and I would also suggest another screw across it to secure to the head. Please, don't mind my engineering critique. 🙂

Could maybe fill it halfway with ball bearings, to act as a dead-blow hammer?
@erinfinn2273

Those look like about 1/2in steel plates for the head. Based on a few sledgehammers of about the same size as those plate stacks, that thing probably weighs close to 12-15lbs. Don't worry, it's a dead-blow enough without shot inside.

I was wondering how morning star would be produced with medival technology and i think the way to create it in order to be solid is to cast it, if you want spikes to be extra strong, you may forge them, plance in mould and cast the "head", so it traps and holds spikes, but not sure if spikes will stay quenched.
