That's kinda the thing about homemade arrows, they're never perfect. They are a sort of "ongoing project" that requires further shaving down, shortening and sometimes just scrapping one altogether. After you've shot them a few times you'll know which is which and which arrows are "good to go".

The days spent making our own bows and arrows are far and few. Nowadays it’s all about who got the fastest and fanciest bow which ridiculously cost us a mortgage to invest in one but in the end both the traditional archers and the modern hunters enjoy hunting the same games. The only difference is the traditional archers will have more money spent on his family than the modern hunters who still paying off the debt on their equipments. It’s wonderful to see the tradition lives on.😊

Make sure to double check that they’re legal in your area. In the US you can’t legally use the feathers of non game species (unless you have a tribal permit.) Just warning you because the fines are hefty

Serious question: why go through the trouble of glueing bone(?) Onto the end of your shaft and then carve a nock into that instead of just carving the nock right into the arrow shaft? I do that all the time with spruce arrows and never did any split (you need to carve then against the grain though) is it because you're using another type of wood? (Looks like bamboo maybe?)

I also make self nocks all the time. This is just a more durable and luxurious way to do it, especially when there’s a hollow pith like with bamboo
