@@makingitinalaska how much is one of those ? I'm going to guess at $40,000 usd
@makingitinalaska11 ай бұрын
This one was right around $10k. Pretty basic mill. The $40k ones have hydraulics that roll the logs, bigger motors, wider and longer cut options, and they are on trailers… maybe someday. This works for now.

Best company to deal with. I had a issue on a 3 year old mill lt15 wide. 1 of the bunks was not lining up perfect. Was still OK esh but bothered me. I contacted the main office and in 24 hours and a few pics sent. They sent me a whole new bed . $2300 canadian free of charge . Keep the old one they said . Could not ask for a better response

I work at a 100 year old sawmill I've always dreamed of having one of these because damns that's hundreds of euros worth of 2x4 that would have probably gone to firewood otherwise
@makingitinalaska7 ай бұрын
While firewood is good. That’s what the tree tops and first cuts are used for. We love being able to produce our own building materials out of trees that would otherwise just rot in the woods.

I want this so bad. Wish the mill wasn’t $10k+. Also, isn’t quarter sawn better for the overall strength and warping issues as they dry?
@makingitinalaska5 ай бұрын
There are cheaper options. I know woodland mills makes some good mills, and I’ve also heard good things about Norwood. Just went with the woodmizer because I know many people that had them and loved them. And yes quartersawn is likely more stable. Not sure if it matters much for strength. These were turned into an outhouse the next day, and the log was dry when milled so not worried about warping.

@@makingitinalaska treees dont live forever.. most softwoods life span is around 100 years old... either cut them or mother nature will claim them thru fires,blow down, heavy wet snow, or insects...just saying..
@Balticblue9311 ай бұрын
You do understand that trees grow back at an amazing rate, right? What happened when the lightning induced forest fires before human existence? The forest burned the undergrowth and induced a completely new Eco-system and trees amongst other vegetation. It is a cyclic world, just like our weather. The companies that cut down trees are required to plant three or more trees for every tree they cut down, in some areas of the world. In 20 years, nobody will even know the trees had been cut down in that area. You tree huggers need to understand farming and building supplies plus demand for our society. Let me guess, you want us to stop using petroleum too? Better stop buying phones, laptops, TV's, make-up, any plastic bottles, and pretty any vehicle because it even a fully electric call is full of petroleum and rare each metals like lithium-ion batteries from Ore that took incredible power and energy to mine to make your batteries. Then you have to use natural gas, coal or petroleum to make electricity to charge the car, your phone, laptop and everything else you buy. It is an Eco-system that is thriving, not dying.
