Good idea! and I couldn't agree more! From a background in film production, if that's the style of filming you're looking for I would also recommend lighting up the whole space on a rig. Also micing yourself up so we can hear you with clarity. Great direction! looking forward to seeing more!

Really enjoyed the video. Was surprised by the Mobius & Ruppert discussion when you mentioned it was in Erlangen. I was stationed in there from 1980-1984 at Ferris Barracks (long closed). I lived in Dechsendorf and took that Dechsendorfer (among the road's multiple names) Strasse to and from work.

Love all the episodes but this one might be my favorite. Nice seeing you guys being you. I’ve had similar issues with pencil sharpeners until I used my water stones and a strop to get the razor even sharper than factory sharpened. I could turn that Ticonderoga into a Staedler with only a few rotations.

Great vid, great channel. I raise a glass of fine malt in your direction, for your frankness and honesty in the intro. Good work fella. Like everything, stuff adapts/evolves over time, so run with it. I think the more open format will allow the real "you's" (?) to shine through. It was a blast watching you guys get excited about pencil sharpeners. I'm no different when it comes to getting cool wee journeys on the web - Head Chef, Carpenter, Welder, Climber, Sailor, Bushcraft - I have rather a lot of highly specific, bright shiny things 😀 Looking forward to the watching this evolve. I had a precision brass pencil sharpener from Germany. It might have been an M&R. It had two conical holes each with it's own blade. One was for shaving the wood away from the graphite core and the other was for putting a point on the graphite. It worked really great sharpening pencils made for mechanical drawing, like from Eberhard-Faber. Results on a Ticonderoga were a bit surprising since the folks a Ticonderoga couldn't be bothered to center the lead in the wood. If you got a high end pencil sharpener, maybe you could also get one of those kits for making your own pencils. 🙂

Honesty- I have always admired the work you do, but could rarely watch your videos to it's entirety. I think it was because of the lack of energy, personality realism, and pace. It was pleasant, in the early days (I've been watching this long), to see your less professional workshop. I seem to recall seeing your son at time. You have always had polished videos (which I appreciate) but it's true that the videos had become more impersonal over time. It's a tricky balance… what I like in your channel is that I never feel that I waste my time (apart for the repetitive SquareSpace ads 😝). On some other channels, I think I'm wasting time because the guy was too lazy to edit properly. The less scripted moments give good insights into the creative process. So far, so good.
