My god both knives are just a thing of beauty. Functional beautiful art pieces, by two seasoned artists/craftsmen. It’s insane to me how the two of you can just come up with these creations so effortlessly. Just shows the years of knowledge and skills developed. I love how you’re bringing other people aboard and showcasing them with these collabs!!!

You know, the blacksmithing community seems to do a really good job at accepting people regardless of their age. I've seen Will working with so many older smiths and there just never seems to be any ego about someone so much younger being able to keep up.

Caster. That's why the knife wants to skim off the way it does. When a wheel leads its pivot, it will wander, when the pivot leads the wheel, the wheel follows.

Both knives turned out great and would be a great addition to anyone's collection! As for the 2x4 chop, I'd imagine there is a lot of technique that comes into play. And the same knife would perform different with different people

I like these comparative projects... It's not even a question of who or what knife is better or any sort of competition type thing, but it is very interesting to see how the different designs and geometries lend themselves to one thing more than another... I'm no smith, I'm just a homecook with a love for nice kitchen knives, but it's endlessly amazing just how different knives can feel and just how adapted they can be to very specific purposes. There are intricacies here that few people really appreciate I think...

At 13.01 they both look like they would chop the horn off the anvil ...... great to see you both working together in a comparison rather than competition. In my experience you would need something more like the weight of a Yorkshire pattern billhook to get a single chop through that 2x4. blade length is about 230mm/ 9"

4:17 happy hammer! Watching the red heat go away and come back at about 7:30 was wild. I've never seen anything like that before. This was a great lesson on how weight, bevel, cross section and all really do affect chopping ability across wood grain. I fully expected your knife to not do as well splitting kindling be a use 9f the cross section.

One aspect not mentioned and I think its something to be critical of in the design of the choppers- is the handle. The nice 'fighter' style sculpted handles are really good for that retention in that they won't slip out of your hand and that's an important factor when swinging a few pounds of danger. But its not so great for figuring out your edge alignment, its not terrible by any stretch, a more stretched out 'oval-0' shape could stop a bit of the rotational torque up closer to the the stronger, controlling index-middle fingers and then scallop out the last half for the ring-pinkie fingers for the retention. Just something to think about, I overall thought the blades are great
