In this episode of the Straightedge, learn how to make large cove moulding on the table saw. No fancy machinery or fancy jigs are required. The technique I use in this video is slightly different that traditional methods and, I find, can be used to make a wide variety of profiles

Thank you for putting such an emphasis on safety. It's one thing to say "Be safe and use appropriate safety protection." It's quite another to actually show us the specific hazards associated with this task and I feel you did an excellent job showing us how to be careful during this specific operation.

A GREAT instructional vid!!! I love the way you assign terminology to the parts of the cove. Great job! As you do, I oftentimes use playing cards as narrow spacers. I always have a deck in the shop just for that reason. I'm really beginning to enjoy your videos. It's obvious you have some instructional experience and/or education in your background. You do a very good job of explaining the entire process. Thank you!

You just saved my day! Been making an entertainment center and wanted to use some cove molding around the top but didn't know how to make it but started the project anyway, hoping I'd figure it out. Just found your vid and it's the perfect technique! No telling how much something this large would cost to buy and ship to me but this just saved me TONS! Thanks and great vid production!

1 simple hint. You can save yourself hours (depending on how much cove you need), but taking most of the meat out of the center with passes from a Dado blade. Terrace the Dado cut and then do the final cove cuts with a lot less material to remove from a full thickness piece of stock. I have done it many times in the past, having 20 plus years of carpentry under my belt This is a good video explaining the different ways angles, and blade angle effects the final shape of the moulding.

To set the left fence. I drop in margin thickness (setback spacer) of wood with the molding spacers. So I don't have to mark the table and measure back then set the left fence (No induce able dimensional error). Doing this I can lock down the left fence right away.

the cove is basically half of an ellipse, so using geometric terms is guess it would make sense to call your "width" the major diameter and your "apex" the minor radius ;)
