Tips for using your Aussie strander or Dene Williams strander with a stabilizing hotel key card.
This allows for cutting reasonable string from small scrap disks.
If you cut 2mm, you can wet stretch and make beautiful beveled 1.5mm lace about 10-14 ft long from leftover disks.
I used to by these bags of 100 disks for about $50 from a few places but they have dried up.
You can put a push pin in the center of a piece of leather and stick a razor at the narrowest point and spin the scrap of leather to make a disk of leather (kangaroo thru about 5 oz leather)

I guess I don't really understand what the stabilizing hotel card is actually doing to help. Wont the strander cut the lace exactly the same without it?

It keeps the plane even and narrows the space between the bed and CAM lock. You can do it with fingers supporting the disc. It also takes the wobble out of the fence improving the consistency of the width of the lace.

Hi I've just bought an Australian strander and was wanting to ask a few questions first can you use veg tanned tooling leather? Second how do you get the curve out of the lace and third when I've stretched the leather and go to resize it doesn't seem to bite into the leather and runs through the strander the second time without actually resizing, regardless of how tight I hold it. Any help would be great thanks

You can bevel the underside. Veg leathers are preferable, though some tooling leathers are thicker than I prefer. I'd say no more than 4 oz wt. Try to keep the source curves ovaled with no curves less than radius 4 inches for smoother lace.

You can soak it in water and loop it in a hook and wet stretch it and it will lessen the curvature in the lace.

If you want thinner straighter lace, reduce the width and trim the outside curves will straighten the lace somewhat as well.
