Great find! Definitely need to take tin snips and remove the flanges on the barn tin. You could also tack weld small v shaped panels to the chain tabs, which would grab the wood faster. (As long as there is clearance at the top of the conveyor, and the underside for it to return to the bottom without hitting anything.) Best of luck with it!

Great score on the elevator Jeremiah! It works great. Looks don’t matter near as much as functionality!! It is very similar to my conveyor/elevator. Like you mentioned, You could fix some “paddles” on the ears to catch the wood better. Mine has rubber pieces on them. If you decide to buy a generator to power it,, beware of your startup amps on the electric motor. I run a small 2k watt generator for mine. It works well but if the generator hasn’t warmed up for a few mins the startup amps are too great for the small generator and it will trip the overload. Those electric motors sometimes just give you the continuous amperage and not the startup amps. Hope that helps. Great video and Happy for you!!

Conveyors are a key piece of equipment. I like that yours is chain driven versus some of the belt driven farm models. I can see an easy way to improve yours. New sheet metal, (salvaged), in the shape of a U with the center open for the chain. The U would fit into the frame work. Then, add bigger paddles to haul the splits. Affix to the existing "paddles." I've had an eye out for one myself. There's one with a fully boxed tray, but it's belt fed. The paddles are full width and made of the same rubber belting. The rubber takes a beating from the splits and deteriorates. I'll be looking for an open type like yours now. Chain driven.

Hi Jeremiah, I think your conveyor works well. Kenny mentioned having flat sheet metal next to the chain on both sides. I think that would improve the chains ability to grab the wood. I think that is a great suggestion. Once the wood was hooked it seemed to always go up. I think if you concentrate with sheet metal on the bottom 4-6 feet to help improve the grabbing zone. After that it would go right up. You mentioned welding a small cleat. If you try that I would only do 4 or 5 to see how it works. Most chain when welded on changes the metal hardness and they break easier. Your welding guy would know that better than I. I think you have a woodyard helper there. Or let it work the way it is. Later my friend.Al

Especially an old skeleton elevator. Normally like what everyone else has gotten. He certainly put a lot of time and thought into it. Initial thought is he must split bigger than you do. It'd take forever but i think you could add sum extra length to the spikes. Pound that bottom rib in the siding on each side flat would help a ton

Excellent purchase. To build this elevator from scratch would cost at least 5 times more than your purchase price. I think your angle is too high from bottom to top. Maybe lowering the top or raising the infeed. Other firewood channels have done modifications and succeeded only after numerous attempts. It works so like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it. All the best to you and your future upgrades.

I believe the fingers on chain might be adequate if you removed the ribs of roofing nest to it. Also, if you had a 20 gauge galv. sheet metal tri angle shaped flange approx. 24 " long & 12-14" wide formed into a concave shape, it would reduce effort tossing wood. This would be less distance & chunks would be directed to the chain, with less bobbing action. Result: less stress on body !

Life just got greater in the 608! Would a 6 inch piece of 1 inch angle stock welded sideways ,on top of the existing fingers be high enough to clear the hump in metal? Make a 'T' shape that runs above and over the barn metal hump at bottom of trough.The metal flap at the bottom would need trimmed. You could even cut serrated teeth in one side of the angle stock. Hopefully you can grasp what I am trying to ask/explain? 😅

Looks like some flaps attached to the existing “grabbers” (if doable?) is about all that is needed. Still better than no conveyor at all 🤷🏼‍♂️. Thnx…

Not sure if that would work, I definitely need to look into it. Thanks Mike👍👍

Awesome! I'm actually in the process of buying one that's very similar! The only downside to the one I'm looking at is that it's currently powered by hydraulics, so I would need a tractor to run it. I want to convert it over to running an electric motor like this, do you have any recommendations on what electric motor I should get??
@outdoorsinthe608
@outdoorsinthe608 3 ай бұрын
That’s one style I didn’t want to get, don’t want to put unneeded hours on the tractor. I’m not real knowledgeable with electric motors but the one on this conveyor is off an air compressor. 115V 1725 RPM. Hope this helps! Thank you

The teeth that push the wood are too small, if there’s enough clearance I would weld some bigger tabs onto them to grab the wood better

I was on top of the world when I got my conveyor too. Unfortunately for firewood there needs to be improvements to them. You will get it figured out in no time I'm sure.

Remember your start off small , your not in the hole 🕳 starting your firewood 🪵 business. Hey probably move wood 🪵 same as EASTONMADE or wolf ridge into your truck Jeremiah. See to working better them Chris and Bert conveyor the last video I look 👀 at . Little new paint and number who would know it’s wasn’t a new one ☝️. Jeremiah see to be working great this morning all that count in the 608 . 😊
