Great video, lots of really interesting thoughts. Covers are so important - you really can judge a book by its cover! Thanks, dude. My favourite style of covers are probably the old EC classics. Gruesome though they may be, they really make a mark, and you know what you're in for right up front. My favourite cover artist is L.B. Cole - his golden-age 'black light' covers are real works of art that I would happily hang on my wall. I also highly recommend Dave McKean's Sandman covers - each is a unique work of art, and even though they don't really hint at the characters or stories, per se, they perfectly encapsulate Sandman. The worst for me are the gimmick covers of the '90s. Tri-gate-fold-foil-embossed-hologram-poly-bagged-with-trading-card-collectors-edition rubbish that somehow managed to be even more cringe than some of the comics within them. It's more the fact that they were a blatant cash-grab than the cover design itself, though.

I had to look them up, but man, those L B Cole covers are fantastic. Makes me want to find some of those books! And I absolutely love Sandman. It was a major influence behind my own series (being based heavily around dreams). I agree with the sentiment of the cash-grab gimmicks, for sure... though I'm sure in the 90s, teenage me probably fell for the hype of a couple of those before I wised up to it. Thanks so much for the comment!
