In this video, Chuck shows us how to create a fun decoration for any leathercrafting project-leather barbed wire! For this project, you'll just need round leather lace, some leather firmer, and a simple wooden mold. A few hours of dry time, and you'll have realistic-looking leather barbed wire that you can use on hats, belts and more!

I love that idea. I have a friend that's been learning to play banjo since he got out of the Army a while ago. Might be a cool banjo strap too.

In order to keep the wire part from coming undone or curling up you don't necessarily have to use leather firmer. Just twist the strands in opposite directions instead of twisting both strands in the same direction.

You talked about it sticking to the wood sometimes. Put wax paper on it and spray it with a silicone spray, and it should not stick.

How securely do the barbs stay attached if used on something that takes a lot of bending, impact, and general day-to-day wear? For instance, attached to a belt that would be constantly rubbing up against other clothing or on a purse/satchel strap that would get carried every day and tossed around a bit? Maybe even as a decorative lining on the *inside* of a purse/satchel where it'd have to stand up to stuff jostling around against it?

We would recommend stitching them in place if they will be attached to something like a belt or purse. This will just make sure they are secured tightly and won't go anywhere.

If I may suggest a project idea Chuck, I saw something from a channel named Chuck's Magic where he was using cabochons set in leather to make pendants, bracelets, conchos, bolo ties. I'm in the process of trying it out but I'd like to see your take on it

Hey Chuck, I was looking on weaver leather supply, and I found your beautiful western crunch water buffalo leather. It said it's semi veg tanned. So are you still able to tool it the way you would tool a regular veg tanned leather?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, the western crunch is a softer veg tan so it won't take tooling and carving very well. You may be able to get a Maker's Mark impression but we wouldn't recommend it for tooling.
