I know!! And the fact that the one parent said that feeding her non verbal autistic child witha keto diet helped cure his non verbalness is absolute bull. I also have autism and didn't speak until i was 3. I went from being completely non verbal to talking non stop literally over night. Kids with autism develop differently and changing what you feed them isn't going to help.

In my personal opinion, and from experience, I can say that turning a kid's diet keto, vegan, vegetarian, etc. It's, most times, a one way ticket to eating disorders. I especially saw it in culinary school, when we had lunch together there was a kid from a vegan family that ate lots of meat, dairy and eggs when he had the chance. Kids should be allowed to try anything at least once and decide if they like it or not.

Veganism is an ethical stance that includes the way you eat, not a diet. Non violent eating should be the standard if anything. Additionally, the one kid you met thats family was supposedly vegan (many are either plant based or just 100% lying) proves nothing. Them eating animal products during lunch isn't indicative of a eating disorder. It's the same as if someone of SE Asian descent wanted to eat pizza at lunch because it's not at home. But yeah, unhealthy fad diets should be a no for kids, along with unhealthy eating in general. G

I did a little research and I agree. The keto diet is high in fats and is greatly unbalanced. It is mainly used for people with preexisting health conditions but in healthy people it could cause issues in the long run.

But the keto diet was originally used for kids with epilepsy and other disorders as such and can help improve quality of life. Again, a child should be allowed whatever food in healthy portions and should not be put under restrictions in any way.

Hard to judge without knowing the child. Perhaps there is a medical reason for why the kid is on a special diet. For example, the keto diet in particular can help control seizures in some people with epilepsy.

I feel like the mom at 7:00 is lowkey being ableist. Like it’s great that your son talks now, but if he is nonverbal, that’s okay too. And i’m not autistic or a doctor, but i’m pretty sure being keto and sugar free helps with epilepsy, not autism. Also, she used good grades and talking a lot as proof that their brains are developing well, and said that that makes them good kids? Like grades don’t define you, and how much you talk doesn’t correspond to how smart, or good you are.

yeah no as an autistic person whos studying to become a special ed teacher, it is super ableist. shes definitely giving off Autism Mommy energy. the way she acts like autism is an illness that she "cured" with a diet change makes me want to rip my hair out. autism is a neurotype that you're born with, eating a carrot isn't going to magically rewire your entire brain. and the way shes like "omg keto made my son start speaking" is hilarious, like she can't even fathom that maybe her son was just a late talker lol.

It also doesn't freaking work, there is no reason why eating keto would help your child's speech development. If the child is autistic, I can't wait for a major change in his life (probably adolescence, it's pretty common for it to happen then) and all the autistic behaviors to start flaring up and biting her right in the ass. The poor kid though, an autistic kid would have to mask so hard just to survive in that house. I really hope it was just a speech delay.

Children should not be on any type of diet the age gap between 2-12 is the main growing point with health wise because those are the years that you should be making sure your child Is eating lots of fruits veggies dairy and meats.the ages between 13-18 is the puberty growing aspect of a child keto diets severely cut the amount of carbs is in one's food consumption and children need these carbs to be physically and mentally active. carbohydrates and sugars are literally what build and fuel cell growth and division, without them you could see a heavy reduce in muscle mass formation, bone fusion, red blood cell production, and even stunted growth overall, also, fat is completely ok to consume, its the TRANS fats you want to look out for, but even then it's perfectly safe, healthy even, in moderate amounts. keto diets, which heavily cut those 2 essential variables, are INCREDIBLY unhealthy, even for teenagers

1:06 I know moms are trying their best, but that's not what ketogenic means... ketosis is a bodily state that occurs when the body lacks carbohydrates for a significant amount of time. The body begins breaking fat into ketones to use as fuel. She already put in a wrap with a bread tortilla (carbs), fruits which have lots of sugar (carbs), then she claims she usually doesn't put watermelon in, because they're on keto.
