Making measuring small parts for 3D printing a LOT nicer. Favorite workflow improvement in a while.

On most of these calipers there is a hidden data port (yours seems to be in the top right). I've been meaning to build a little tool that reads from this port for ages. Would be great to have a simple button next to your calipers that, when pressed, fakes a series of key presses to automatically enter the measured value into your CAD program :)

SPC output. I wouldnt be surprised if the ones that have that functionality removed simply dont have the button and port for it, but used the same board. If you're lucky you wouldnt even need to script anything, just wire in the button and cable.

i would say that this data is clamped for a reason. either you got a cheaper model that has some precision removed, or, the more likely answer, these calipers aren't precise enough to get more accurate measurements, and they just don't show you the garbage data

How about a magnet strip? That is what I use. In fact you can turn in degree and place on any metal surface. And only cost around $1 from any hardware store.

Now you can hold the part and half the caliper instead of holding both halves of the caliper! Kidding, this is actually super useful. May do something like this eventually too.

How did you measure your calipers then? More calipers?? I thought one set was enough, looks like Amazon gets another order from me.

This is great but every set I have is a bit different. I wonder if I can come up with something that will hold any of them?
