Watching this two years after you filmed it. I think you should send it to some National archives of film as a record from the pandemic. It is a fantastic reflection of the times we have lived through. I’m from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. We had some of the longest lockdowns. It is fascinating hear your and others reflections. Great video.

Just filled a page of these using what I saw in my computer room. The use of colour really makes it look like an actual piece. Super happy with the results and I drew things I never knew I could!

Thank you so much Danny for this exercise and video! It has helped me so much. I know me, if I am not pushed into doing something that is a little scary or painful, then I won't tackle it. What I did that helps me stay on track is I pre-drew my sketch boxes throughout my sketchbook. I just randomly picked pages throughout my current sketchbook and went ahead and drew random boxes on them. I am trying to sketch one page a day or one every other day to improve. But this way, when I come to that page, I am forcing myself to tackle those small sketches that day and step out of my comfort zone. I am often paralyzed with fear that my sketch page will be less than perfect and riddled with mistakes so this oftentimes keeps me from starting one. With the boxes already drawn and the mindset that this is just "practice", it lessons that fear monster. Thank you again for all you do. You and Sketchbook Skool have had a tremendous impact on my sketching life!!

I love your sketchbook tips! Thank you! And i love that you are in Phoenix Arizona - I had a friend from Phoenix for a year in the South of France more than 30 years ago... she was a lovely hippy called Emily, totally lost touch with her, but a wonderful soul she was, and a fabulous artist too. Youth is wasted on the young, but what fabulous times they were!!

I also like to fill the squares with watercolour washes or play with water and ink bleeds, and also water soluble graphite. When the boxes are dry I then either draw mini scenes, as per the vid, or use the colour 'patterns' to inspire a drawing, maybe a mini landscape pic...

Oh my goodness, this episode has taken me back to my childhood. I have drawings from my first home here in the United States. I did what you suggest in this video with the exception that I didn't do squares. I just used a page for each. It is now a history of what we had and how it looked at the time. For example, I drew a corner of the living room where we had the tv. It was a big tv console with a nice area on top where we (the kids) put some of our dolls and some ceramic figurines. The drawing is a time capsule. I have many from my childhood after 10 years old. (the ones I did before 10 were lost in the move from Costa Rica to the USA) Thanks for reminding me how I loved drawing the moment. 💖💖

Hi, Danny! Thanks for all of your wonderful videos, and for being so REAL. Love it! I am currently doing your tiny drawings in frames. I started out with a can of Coke. Not great, but it's better than I thought it would be, and above all, it was fun to get out all of my pens and materials--it was the first time out for some things. I am about to start experimenting on black paper. I've done it before, and there are lots of ways to do it. Q-tips and bleach create a sort of sort golden drawing. You can also use white charcoal pencils, or terra cotta ones. I've never been very good at drawing and was never really into it. This is a while new thing, and I have you to thank! Thank you! #sbsdrawing party

More comments: 1 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! 2. What I miss: outings with my Urban Sketchers groups and my Cosplay Drink and Draw group 3 Arizona isn't doing "shelter in place"; if they think they'll have an explosion of cases in 2 weeks, such as NY, then they should be ordering people to STAY THE HECK HOME NOW! It takes 2-3 weeks for that to work to slow the spread. I live in WA, the first epicenter and I don't think our Gov. acted quickly enough to shut things down. We are still on the up swing. 4. Alternative to fresh milk: UHT (Ultra High Temperature) pasteurized milk; shelf stable for months in a box. I first encountered it while living in Germany decades ago. Couldn't get it when we first came back to USA but now it's common.

Canned milk is probably good for years, I need to get some more. I have some powdered milk but I don't think there's any fat in that. That 2 weeks thing sure worked out well, huh? After seeing what was supposedly going on in China, I prepared for a 3 month lockdown originally, made it 5 months before getting a new battery for my car and venturing out for food.

I didn't see anything interesting to draw, so I'm drawing textures, I guess. Drew scales, like roof tiles or fish scales, then I drew a panel tried to make it look like wood grain with knot holes. I'll need to think of more things.

I loved taking pictures of road signs, especially stopping and posing next to signs entering a new city, state, park, elevation, etc. When I went backpacking I took photos of each trail marker, and I'd brought a little mascot with me ,so I posed him on top of each trail marker. I also wrote each day what happened that day.

@@jennifern9373 lol, it was a kid's meal toy from years ago of a little Yoda character, I think it was safe for 3 and under because it's just one piece hollow. But I took photo of him on every trail signpost, on my sleeping bag each campsite or somewhere around camp. He was my travelling buddy, now I travel with him everywhere. I've got someone to talk to and photograph even when I'm alone. My travel companions thought it'd be funny to bury him up to his neck in the ground and take picture of that, or under someone's hiking boot with a paper cartoon bubble saying HELP!!! Very funny guys. I suppose Yoda helped unleash their creativity too. I think they even took a photo of poor Yoda with toilet paper stuck to him. That's what I get for my battery on my camera dying and being with a bunch of guys. But afterwards they said Yoda was our group's mascot. They can get their own mascot, and they gave me a hard time for bringing him at all, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've got photos of Yoda at the summit of Mt Whitney with me, and on the book where you sign your name. I think the reason I brought him is because an earlier training hike I kept getting ditched by the group because I was slowest, and I had nobody to talk to, and nobody to take a picture of in beautiful scenes, so it was depressing. I even considered quitting, but analyzed what the problem was, and realized I could solve with a dedicated travel buddy, great for determining scale in photos like next to a flower. Yes I talked to a plastic toy, but it helped as dumb as it sounds and I like the way Yoda talks. Much wisdom he has, yessss... Edit: I guess he's my version of Wilson, hmm, just realized that
