I like trucks, and since you're here, you probably like them also. With this, it's one thing to like trucks, but in the grand scheme of things, we need to make sure that we make money with the trucks as we use them. In today's video, we talk about how this T680 is setup to help make sure that when you send your money out into the world, that it comes back with more friends than it left with.

I own a 2015 T680. 13 speed manual. I drive it at 70. Average 7.5 mpg paccar 485 hp. My mpg is done on paper. Not ecm read out. The truck is ok. Very cheap made latches on over head break them all the time. But very expensive to replace 100.00 depends on the mood at kenworth... cheap plastic.. I had a T660 and a w900l Very good trucks. W900l loves fuel. Maybe 6 mpg on a good day.

It's amazing the difference that those little touches can make. That's a 20% increase in fuel investment by running the W900...... ugh.

I feel bad for you, if you need to get that paccar motor worked on. The tow truck pulling your truck will pass by 15 shops that are open with certified Cummings mechanics looking for something to do and you'll be forced to go to the Kenworth dealer to work on that paccar motor and it will be expensive and you'll have to wait 2 to 4 days before it can go in the shop because they are busy.
@bigb9061

Dedra Kuhn they all cost big money to go in shop. So far the engine has been good with over 800,000 on it. I put a million 2 on my last truck with a Cummins. Idk what the answers is today what engine is the best. I hear bad things about all and good things about all. My next truck may be a 2020 Peterbilt 389 with Cummins in it. Waiting to hear from bank.

I like adaptive cruise. First day I had it had a car cut out in front of me and the truck slowed me down to 40 then right back to 65, I never did a thing. And the thing runs off mountains great with the automated transmission

Another GREAT video Josh!!!!!! Thanks for making a few things more clear to me on the new T680. But as a comment and a question: You mentioned this rig is spec'ed with 11RX24.5 tires. Isn't the "normal" spec 295/75RX22.5? With 2.79 gears that thing must idle at about 60MPH LOL! Also do you have any insider info on repeal of the Federal Excise Tax on Class 8 tractors? Thanks again, keep up the great work!

I love the t680, I put 130k miles on one, traveled to 47 out of 50 states and canada, and it ran like a champ. With the Bendix system I have a love hate relationship with it. It works wonderfully on clear dry roads and has even saved me a couple of times, but it’s also put me and my fellow drivers into some really bad spot. Things like locking up the breaks on a snow covered road, detecting a collision while going under some bridges, and even slowing you down in a gentle curve because it thinks your going to rear end the car next to you. I don’t outright hate it like many drivers, but it definitely needs some improvement.
@KenworthofRichfield

Totally makes sense Tyler! Bendix is constantly improving that system and in just a few years, I think it'll be amazing.

Great video as always but let’s face reality. Who can actually afford these trucks? I think they are building these things without the technology that they think they have. It seems the huge issues we have with these expensive beasts is when a guy like me buys one at over 500,000 miles. We the owner operator has no choice but to buy an extended warranty not in case we have a problem but with these new trucks it is guaranteed that we will be down with a very expensive problem. Two or three of these in a row and you may go out of business. Recent electrical problems with my Cascadia has showed me that paying the 140 per hour rate for using their very expensive computers is no better than having a regular mechanic throw parts at it. For three weeks that is all Freightliner did. Absolutely disgusting. I recently test drove a 2015 Pete 579. All kinds of electrical issues on the Paccar motor that would have cost me ten thousand to fix. The after treatment is an expense we all fear but the bigger fear should be the electrical. I have just sold that junk of mine and purchased a 2005 International with a C-15. I now can breath again.

Nice truck 👍👍 but the Bendix system is ok for dry weather if you get snow and ice or alot of rain it can go into fault I know I drove a couple of t 680s for Swift and had that problem with them but the I drove without it. It was like driving a tank it was an awesome truck

Interesting Gene. I'll have to see what I can do about testing in those conditions. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!
@Anthony_T.
@Anthony_T. 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with Gene. get ice on the front radar and the cruise will throw a fault and disable the cruise control. quick fix is to usually get the ice off the radar and usually clears up. Another thing i ran into and not dissing on Swift, but, if you're zoned out going down the highway and you come up behind Swift or Prime the cruise will set you really slow. Happened to me a few times and took me a minute to realize that the cruise had set itself to almost 58 mph and the decrease in speed was so smooth i didnt notice lol. I'll speed up and pass them and resume and go on my merry way lol
@KenworthofRichfield
@KenworthofRichfield 4 жыл бұрын
@@Anthony_T. That's a great thing about the cruise as to me, it makes it so you still need to pay attention, but it also takes out some of the manual parts of it.

I want to like KW, I really do but having dealt with the local Pete and KW dealers I keep going back to Pete everytime... A lot of that is because the parts dept. at my local KW has it in their heads to close at 4:30pm... Pete is open til 11:00pm. I've talked many a customer out of a KW solely because of the dealership times alone.

i've heard that paccar and kenworth have issues customer service , were paccar sends codes and your technecians don't find the codes or say they aren't showing, i've dealt with alot of shops that would bleed you dry and not solve the issue

On the mx 13 multi torque 1650/ 1850 lbs torque. 12 speed paccar transmission. I would like that set up for the engine to stay at 1850 in 1000 to 1400 rpms. And 1650 torque outside the torque band.

It would be awesome to see real data of a 13 or 18 speed versus automatic versus automated. Sure I can say I would prefer to drive a manual. But in the end for me, it is about the $'s. I would want to know scientifically, does an 18 speed get better mpg than an automated or automatic (all else being equal … same speed, same load, same headwind, the test would need to take place on a test track). And, maybe even more importantly, which one will last longer, with fewer problems and fewer expenses? My gut tells me with a proper driver for any of the transmissions, the 18 speed (or 13 speed) is going to use less fuel, last longer, break less, etc. Which is the reason why I would choose an 18 speed, not because (it also) is more enjoyable to drive. And as a CV owner with drivers, I would not hire a driver that could not properly drive an 18 speed … even if I put said driver into an automagic transmission equipped truck. If anyone knows of some scientifically performed testing, a link would be appreciated.
@KenworthofRichfield
@KenworthofRichfield 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting points Oliver and we've actually got some information to back that up. Doing a head to head test like that gives some data, but running a ton of trucks with a ton of options over a ton of miles gives more accurate information. Most of the biggest fleets that look at every penny have gone to the automated transmissions, many of which are going with the 12 speed now. Life expectancy is the same if not just a bit better and they've found that on fuel mileage, the automated will beat around 90-95% of the drivers on the road, and the technology in this is only getting better.
@oliverenterprises380
@oliverenterprises380 4 жыл бұрын
@@KenworthofRichfield Ken, I know you're right. And I thought about the fact that big fleets will have lots of useable data. However 2 flaws. They're not likely to share that data (I don't blame them), and they're buying new trucks and keeping them a couple years and dumping them near the expiration of warranty. So they are much less concerned about the long term durability of a transmission. A lot of us little guys get their sloppy 2nds, and must be much more concerned about long term durability. My opinion is the Eaton manual transmission is going hold up better from 500k to 1.5 million than an auto anything.

This truck is Not Efficient, a paccar motor can only get worked on by shops that have paccar parts. Everyone works on Cummings and parts are widely available. Anyone who orders paccar motors deserve a kick in the nads by the 2nd owner who buys used trucks to make a living.

I own a 2019 T680. I have the electric Apu. It seems I'm the only person on the planet who does. Why doesn't anyone talk about this system? I even had a dealer in El Paso argue with me that Kenworth doesn't make an electric apu. Imagine the stupid look on his face when I showed up with a truck with an electric Apu from paccar.

Why does everyone think heated seats is for convenience. That's cool n all but ass sweat is gross. You can always dress warmer you can't drive down the road naked. I'm sure some would differ. I think when it comes to comfort someone has their head up there ass. Let's be honest anyone driving through Arizona in the summer sitting for hours this happens to everyone. A cold seat your body can warm. A hot seat doesn't cool at all. I think they need to ask real drivers about comfort rather than someone who has never seen the inside of 1 sitting at a desk all day.
