both approaches to creativity are legit and necessary. You both acknowledged use of each others'; recording an idea into phone on the way to stage (capture inspiration when it hits) and willingness to do the work (implies structured effort) beyond when it hits ya.

this is the best fucking substantial band interview ever and congrats coming from young people. i could write pages about the gold you re talking,straight up honesty and the balls you got,but i'll just say we do exist and theres quite a few of us. i'm a sound engineer from Greece and this vid just made my fuckin night...rock out!

6:01 I accidentally started writing a mental poemish thing (i'm honestly just trying t be a proverb here) personifying creativity: Creativity is a wandering ghost Fading and always moving Some people take it as a challenge to chase it Others will wait for it You cannot control when creativity comes So always be ready for her But you must practice for when she does arrive As she is a storm to those untrained But a friend to the artist

I love how the music making process you described about the use of external influence, making it sound like the process of meiosis, in which you recombine different sources into something brand new and different

Loved it Ariel! and so glad you brought Shawn into this XD I feel like I've heard so much from you and Adam has been on the show a bunch. It's nice to hear about the creative process and being in the band from Shawn as well :)

You guys are awesome. Loved your songs in 2014, then somehow forgot about you and 2 days ago in th morning I knew I liked "that one band with colorful face on the cover and some song about theater". Took me 3 hours of obsessing and googling to find you again and your new album from 2016. Absolutely lost in You cant kill us song now. And then YT brought me here - so happy to see that you are intelligent and hard working people, not just some artistic divas. Kudos and new album please!! Love you.

This video was exactly what I needed! I want to write with my band (we are predominately hard rock) but also experiment with pop, electronica, vocal harmonies, etc. with my other musician friends. Thank you for the tips and inspiration! Shawn is totally my spirit animal! lol I thought I was a "lame rockstar" for being the one in the band that makes spreadsheets and index cards to keep everything organized. It's good to know that one of my favorite bands has similar roles to the ones my band has. I would love to hear more from Shawn in future videos!

this was such an entertaining interview. we should make the change to musicians just interviewing other musicians cuz they know all the good questions to ask.

It's like getting influenced by bands then making similar music. When I write my songs, it sounds like punk rock/ rock. I Like Garbage so I wrote a song similar to one of there songs. The same idea but not quite the same. Breaking Benjamin rocks!

When was the moment you both knew you could quit your jobs? I feel like I'll never get away from mine, because It's all I have to make money and lately it's been consuming my time much more than my music ;--;

+Moriah Lambier We quit our traditional jobs right around the time we started tor full time, which was three years after we started the band (we just played weekend shows for a long time, so that way we could keep our day jobs so we could afford the gas to play the shows). BUT-music does not traditionally do a good job paying bills! A lot of touring musicians work at starbucks/etc when off the road. I do The REL Show, and my clothing line, Custom Catastrophes, etc! best of luck to you moriah! xoxo ariel

+The REL Show Yes, as of right now I'm just playing shows in my province! It's so fulfilling even if I'm making 0 money off it and it's not a full tour. Even these shows take a lot to prepare for! I am friends with a few bands also who do work when they get off tour, so I feel that! I just hope my job will let me take the time off to tour, because I am planning on it next year... If all works out :) thanks for taking the time to reply and for believing in me. it's always great catching up with you & a huge confidence booster. Hope I see you on the road again sooner than later! I admire all that you do 💜Moriah

I'm more like Ariel. *Stays up til 6am writing up song tabs...* It messes my sleeping pattern up alot though aha. I have a question, I know I'm late to the party but how did you guys go about starting with synths? I am a guitarist but I'm always can write up strings or pads with sounds in mind into my tabs/scores. Did you guys start with physical synths or more plugin type stuff? Thanks :)

I am Champaign, IL, I was curious how you actually built yourself up to the point of being able to start traveling nation wide? Any recommended areas you guys played that got you really well known, or was it just playing at the most wide variety areas you could?

Loved the new intro! Made my day to see an upload and hear from Icon For Hire-- but I have a question I was hoping someone could answer about Ariel's tattoo's (no her new ones: beautiful and brutal) I know I recall seeing like two on her biceps: Authority and make art, make war? The confusing part is sometimes I see one without the other. Example: authority’s on her arm but there is no sign of her make art tattoo visa versa. Can anyone explain and confirm this for me? Its driving me insane sometimes I wanted to think she got one of them removed… is it just the angle? Am I right when I say ones on her left arm the other on the right? *~*

I think studying to have a average job, its worst than working job that you hate, I don't know, sometime I want to give up at the college, and run away with friends and live on the road, but it wont work, so I return to study more and more .-.

Woah! Really!? I can see that. But, you never know. You could have changed since then. I took the test once and I was an INFJ, but then I took it a few years later and I was an INFP.

I'm curious...Ariel, u mentioned Shawn does digital drumming...is that gonna be the drum work for the new music moving forward? Or will there be a new, actual drummer brought in at some point?

+Richie Herlinger Great question! We aren't totally sure ourselves yet. For studio work, we can do all the drums digitally with our producer and they'll still sound beefy. For live shows we'll definitely want an actual drummer out with us. But all this could change-we're figuring it out as we go.

+The REL Show Gonna be tough finding someone to replace Adam, it was just to much fun watching him perform, loved how much he got into it. You guys ever thought about seeing if Josh would step up more? I know he can play the drums! With Adam gone, it would be nice to see Josh get more involved. And I know that would help u and Shawn out a lot.
