Luise and Barbara are using binders for this year's Dephemerember. I've decided to make a journal that I can add to as the prompts are done.
The binding starts around 21:30 - I thought the mic was still plugged in, but it wasn't so you'll have to turn the volume up at that point possibly.

Darcy this is just so cute!!! I love the grungy cardboard and your use of the maps, especially since Dephemerember is world wide. Such a neat creative way of expressing this challenge. You showed up in my recommended videos, glad your paper ribbon intrigued me. I find you quite entertaining and informative, a great combination. I printed out the prompts along with Ephy and some of Barbra’s and Luise’s digitals but that is as far as I have gotten. Just starting to dabble in mixed media, it still makes me uneasy coming from card and box crafting where precision and uniformity are key. You make it look like fun. Thank you.

Darcy, I love your cover for the book; what was I thinking fabric? 🙄. Yours is beautiful, the texture and the colors all blended very well producing wonderful texture. I love the idea of using the corrugated paper. I think you did a wonderful job with the tutorial. I was only lost once, but it all was answered, as you kept going. (That’s more my problem than yours.). I think your idea/theme for the book is very creative providing a real sense of belonging to a community. Thank you for sharing this.😍

Thank you so much, Colleen. I'm sure your fabric cover is wonderful. Last year I used Tim Holtz papers for the book and cover. One is not better or worse; just different. If you love the corrugated cardboard look, you could do a topper using it on your journal. Thanks for watching and commenting. Love&hugs

I saw the inkslinger version a few weeks ago, & thought it was so intriguing. I saw Barbara's version, & now yours.....what FUN! I'm on the fence about making a journal, or just using an altered book that has been prepped for a couple years....guess I'm gonna wait til the last minute & see what the prompts are.

I've always had HP printers (inkjet envy ones at the moment) since printing graphics. I can not say they were/are without their issues. I pair them with the HP instant ink program, which costs less than buying ink at the store. I know a lot if people really like Epson eco tank printers. I think Gayle Agostinelli has it listed on her favorite things on her website, but I'm not 100% sure.

I bang everything when the lid sticks, but I do it on the floor. Especially when my husband is around! He is alays afraid the jar will break. (it seems my pickle jars are usually stuck!) You said front and back but is it the inside or outside? I guess I'll figure that out as I watch! Yep - sure 'nuff 😁 You have the most absolutely adorable "critters". Question: Do both inks and oxides need to be sealed when you're done? Are they "permanent" when dried? Do you have a fan brush for splattering? Others I've seen use a fan brush. I've never done sprinkles! I think the awl with the hole is for sewing. You thread it, stick it through whatever, and grab the thread. It's great for getting thicker stuff through smaller holes. And you could use the loop to put something through, then pull the thread (or whatever) back, and then whatever will hold the loop. (does that make sense?) That's a cool way to bind a book but I think it's beyond me!! I will definitely have to watch you step by step to get it right. Can you put more than one page in each fold? What if the book gets "gator-mouth"? I'm definitely not ready for this one. But love the idea and great video. TFS. 💖💖💖

I feel like we should have been on the phone while you watched. 🤣 Both distress inks and distress oxides are water reactive which makes sealing it all that more tricky (hence the spray; could be done use a matte gel medium on the gel plate as well or don't seal it and hope it never gets wet and it'll just be more grungy if it does). I'm sure I said a few wrong words in the video: per usual. #wordsarehard I have to go reread the question to remember what else you asked.

Thanks for the good info about the awl. I agree it is a convoluted binding the way I explained it. You might want to watch Barbara's video (linked in description box). My husband keeps asking questions so I have to read your comment again. 🙄

Gator mouth, that was it. Because I haven't glued the back tabs it shouldn't end up being a gator mouth. When it's finished I'll glue the back binding straps. Phew! I hope I answered everything. I appreciate you. Thanks for watching, commenting, asking questions, and knowing things. 😁🥰😘 Love&hugs
