Fun fact, the original use of what we would call a soft drink nowadays was based around a perceived medicinal idea. Herbs used for various curatives were made in a tincture and combined with levels of sugar to make it palatable as it was also combined with soda water (seltzer water, or mineral water in the past). This is why old time pharmacy stores used to have soda shops as part of it. It was essentially a "sweet tea" that people treated as a form of homeopathy.

I made this myself a while ago. Was so hard to find coriander seeds, so I used the grated version. It was ok, but kinds overpowered it. Now that I actually have the right ingredients, I should make it again. Finding the brown sauce that isn't made specifically for gravy is tough, though, so I'll probably have to make it from scratch again.

Made it yesterday… AWESOME! Drinking it now while watching the new series.

The sugar means the water can absorb fewer flavors. My tip: First put the spices with the peel in a little vodka and then let them boil in water with the juice until the alcohol has evaporated. Then add the sugar little by little. Finally, take brown sugar and caramelize it until it is dark brown (but nut too much otherwise it tastes bitter). Then add your syrup and mix the whole thing until it becomes a homogeneous, dark liquid. This saves you the food coloring and it taste better👍🏼
