Making Of: A Marquetry Panel

This is just a quick, fun video showing the creation of a marquetry panel using the double bevel cutting technique. The foreground piece and its cavity are cut at the same time, on an angle, so that the pieces fit together without any gaps.
In the next video I'll walk through the technique and show you how to make your own, so be sure to subscribe!

This method is fine and works well, IF you own a quality scroll saw AND a vacuum press!!!

Well I had this on full speed, u must try it. Also try strawberry vodka green Hawaiian Punch white tea blueberries and carmalized apples with brown sugar. Drink it hot. Your welcome !

Well done but a bit fast for me. If you could slow it down and give some explanation as to how to get the colors of woods, the cutting/layering etc. What do you do with those panels once finished? Just curious. Thanks. I'm subscribed now.

Thanks! That's a solid idea for a video, I'll see what I can put together. I think I made this panel into a clock. Some I've used as box tops, some just put a frame on and hang it up. Lots of uses!

It’s dyed veneer, I think I got it from B&B rare woods

Hi what’s the name of the machine you are using to cut the veneer ? Can you please provide some specs ? Thanks in advance

That's an Excalibur scroll saw. That particular model is harder to find these days but I think the Jet models operate the same way. These models tilt their heads rather than their tables, and I much prefer the tilting heads.

Save a load of time...…….. instead of putting paper in the printer, then tracing it on to tracing paper - put the tracing paper in the printer. It's surprising what you can put thru a printer - I've printed kite parts on to thin cotton before now.

How doy cut wood thin?

That’s commercially cut veneer, it comes that thin, about 1/42 of an inch, give or take. You can cut veneer yourself on a bandsaw but it’s much thicker.

That's Shuretape CP-28. It's a painter's tape for delicate surfaces. It can go through the pressing process and still peel off without tearing up wood grain. I think I found a case of it on ebay once, it seems harder to find in stores.

John OBrien nice! I was just out there last week in Garrett Hack’s class. If you haven’t been out yet this year the food is phenomenal. Lunch is the best part of the day!
