In this video I show how I make a trout sized landing net. The handle is made from a piece of maple burl. The hoop is made from zebra wood and walnut. I sourced my net from Jans Net Craft. Enjoy!

That's amazing👀I produced several, but I was preoccupied with grain of wood, and there was n't the idea that I painted

Beautiful work James. What type of router bit did you use for the slot?

I learned something new watching your 2 videos and that is the jig method for glue up's. I like the Dowel setup. Sad you turned off comments on your latest video. I learn from what others ask and say. Like your source on the Gun Strap Swivel. Impressed with the finishing process. I hope to expand my business into Nets and Fly Boxes some day. I was very impressed with your method of applying wood dye with a brush. I had a thought as I saw the handle being stained... How about some little holes in the face of the handle that are color filled to look like a trout speckles.... Good Job :)

Nice job! Where did you get the router bit to cut the groove on the outside of the net? I've been looking for one for a while

Mlcs, it’s in the slot cutting bit area. Here’s a link to the page. I built one that cuts 1/8x1/8 slot. www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/bt_slot.html

So cool, did you make up the jig for keeping the steamed wood in shape?

Great net, I’ve been making them for several years now and enjoy seeing other craftsman making theirs. I’m always looking for different ways to attach my lanyards, I noticed your attachment looks black. I make my own sometimes out of brass but they take a lot of time to get to a decent finished product. Can you tell me where you got yours? Thx Larry B

I’ve found two styles I like, the black ones I use are on amazon, I believe they are call gun sling swivels. I also use brass ones that I found on eBay called swivel eye rotating connector. They come in a couple different sizes. I prefer the 7mm size.

@@digitalwoodshop James , I do not have web site although I’ve been giving so thought lately. I’ve made about fifty nets so far but I don’t sell them. I usually give them to friends and relatives or my own family. I noticed you cut your strips at 1/8”. I’ve found a lot of woods break easier than others so I usually cut them at 1/16”.

Handle shape is awful, in my opinion. But the nets absolutely beautiful.

Typical shape for the high end trout nets they use here in Japan. That said, everyone has their own tastes.
