The fact I hated it at first and then loved it to completion is a reminder not to let the internet interfere with your experience. Loved DS2 and would play it again and again

especially because DS2 replayability is the best of the whole franchise, build variety, ng+ system ( the ONLY ONE that changes stuff in ng+ ), atmosphere, different and beautiful areas, and is not linear like DS3.

Ds2 developpers are some of the most talented I’ve ever seen. The fact that they were able to make a pretty decent game even with ds2’s troubled developpment is honestly astonishing.

Definitely one of my favourite games of all time, it has its flaws; but it should not be defined by them. There's so much to praise: Art direction/Animations/Build Variety/Characters/Covenants/Dialogue/Enemy and Boss Variety/Fashion Souls/Lore/Music/Ng+/Pvp and Pve/Storytelling, etc. The criticism is too absolute, some of it is valid however much of it is not. This games themes and messaging speaks through every aspect of it and resonates with my soul; truly one of my favourites While it may not directly follow-up some of that that they made in the prior videogame: Dark Souls 1, this videogame leads us more directly into Fromsoft's future games: Ds3/Elden ring than 1; it's faster speed, much open-ended nature, etc. It's what I needed out of the sequel: it took stunning chances, improved multitudes of mechanics; technologically, this is the Elden Ring/Ds3, Bloodborne engine. They may not have all paid off totally, however...even in the occasional misstep they still succeeded; they were, are succeeded in their recent videogame output. Retrospectively, this videogame is not just mostly great, it is 100% necessary. The vocal minority says "if Dark Souls 2 was the original, then there'd be no series" Now, obviously this is some unknowable quandrum; no-one can see that other timeline. But it's looking at it from the wrong perspective; it's not JUST the game it followed...it's the games that followed it. Go play 1, then 3. Go play 2, then 3; it's much nearer.

Best Souls 2! Crazy they wanted to do an open world game like Elden Ring all the way back then

As a game on its own, I really liked DS2. Comparing it to DS1 I can see though, why it is considered to be "bad" though. In DS1 we have this huge coherent world, while DS2 feels like a lot of maps were created, and then they were slapped together into a big game. It doesn't really feel like a single game. Still, the maps were really good and the progression through it is keeping me interested to keep playing on. And when you get tired of an area, you find a new one, which kindles the interest again. I found it interesting, that in this video there was a lot of talk of the player and how to meet his expectations, while in the video with Miyazaki he is mostly talking of his vision. Which I think is one of the reasons why DS1 is a really great game and lacks in DS2. Visually and atmosphre is still top notch in DS2.

For me its just how slow and sluggish the attacks are, probably because they're more animation based and they look amazing, but just feels like I'm playing in slow motion and can't stand it.

@@darkness2160It's not bad. VirJohnity did a decently in-depth comparison of the two side by side. Basically, the beginning areas have way more enemies than original but the later stages were made more accessible. Also, item placements have more logic in their new locations. SOTFS's level scaling makes it so you're grinding less too. Also 60fps! So, like a movie with different cuts. There's the theatrical cut that alot of people experienced first then there's the hd dvd cut that changes a few things here and there that alot of people didn't like.

@@ryanvandoren1519 If I had to compare, it’s definitely the weakest Souls game imo. But the fact I and many others still had a ton of fun with it speaks volumes of the game’s potential power as a gaming experience. If I had listened to the ninnies like Asmongold who cry about “weird” mechanics, gank bosses and mob spam (as if Elden Ring isn’t also beholden to those *same exact* flaws and then some), I’d have missed out on one of my best gaming experiences during Covid. Gamers are just impossible to reason with at times, and they certainly love their tantrums.

Its a shame, because there are some truly incredible moments in DS2. But so much of it feels rushed and unorganized. I would take a remake of DS2 that smoothed out its rough edges before a new Bloodborne any day of the week.😊
