Intended to be the series finale of SpongeBob SquarePants, the show was renewed for a fourth season due to the film's success and the show's popularity. Further episodes were told to take place before the events of this movie. Alec Baldwin took on the role of Dennis because his children are fans of Spongebob Squarepants. David Hasselhoff's part was written before the actor was even approached. He readily agreed without reading the script, largely at the behest of his daughters. Tom Kenny's SpongeBob voice is more high pitched versus SpongeBob SquarePants tv series. Scarlett Johansson accepted a role in the film as she's a big fan of cartoons, especially The Ren & Stimpy Show.

@@AlienManFromTheOcean Season 1 I think is a little overrated. Episodes like Pizza Delivery and Arghh were funny. But season 2 and 3 still remain the best. Season 4-8 were great. But season 9-present are absolute garbage. So I guess I can somewhat agree with you.

I love everything behind-the-scenes. RIP Stephen Hillenburg. Fun fact: Stephen Hillenburg’s son, Clay Hillenburg, was 6 years old in 2004, around the time of this film’s production. He’s even credited at the end. I may have not have been born in 2004, but I wanna life in California now.

Who’s watching this the day before spongebob’s birthday episode? I’m so excited! I’m a huge fan of spongebob and I’ve seen every episode! I’m even trying to become a voice actor. I’ve been so inspired by this show. I can’t wait for more episodes and maybe movies!

Fun Fact: Alec was lucky he got to voice Dennis in The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, because his kids were fans of the show including his oldest daughter, Ireland. Other than that, I heard he and Kim are now grandparents to Holland Baldwin just about a year ago despite their divorce.
