Making Puzzle rings

January the third is J. R. R. Tolkien’s birthday and as Tolkien is one of my favorite writers, I’m going to make some rings to celebrate and I have invited some fellow youtubers to join in. The rings I’m going to make are called puzzle ring or Turkish wedding rings, but the Danish name is Tryllering which literally means “magic ring”.

Very interesting to hear that the tradition amongst Swedish soldiers is known outside the borders! I'm the guy who sells them the rings nowadays, and I've also done two tours myself. Great video! ☺️

Love this definitely will attempt to make a few. I do wire work and I primarily chainmaille. I haven't done any jewelry soldering as of yet, but am looking forward to learning. Ps, VOG sent me your way.

If you do wire work I don't think they will pose a problem for you and they are not hard to solder. He's a good man that VOG. :-) Thanks for watching!

As I was traveling Europe by cycle in '71, I had purchased The Trilogy in England and read it at night when we camped out after riding all day over 4 months. I bought a 4 band ring somewhere along the way and still have it. Let my 3 girls try to figure it out as they were growing up. I don't know if they ever got it or at least they never told me. Thanks for the video, I really wondered how they were made...now I know.

Thank you, as I've several metres of silver wire. May I ask where one can buy the flux for the soldering. Can that pad be also bought. Jewellry suppliers or EBay. Regards, Mike

Your welcome. :-) Yes, the solder paste syringe and the honeycomb soldering pads you get from a jewellery making supply store. I think I got the pad on ebay. The vermiculit pad underneath you can get where they sell fireplaces/ovens.

What were those two metal tools that you used to do the weave called? There was a blunt pick-like tool and an very very blunt blade. Also, if it isn't too hard for you to say, how may I buy them?

The "pick" is a tool for setting stones and the "blade" is a burnishing tool. You can probably buy a variation of them in jewelry tool shops, but these I made in a video long ago. ;-) Thanks for watching.

How do you solve the one in the middle of this video thumbnail? I’m stuck and I’m so sad lol I just got my ring and can’t figure it out. 😬

In exactly the same way, but you collect the rings in pairs first. The two outer left and the two outer right like I do with the single outer rings, then solve the middle and close it.
