Superb. I hike with heavy duty military boots and I was looking to buy some lightweight shoes for when Im loitering in camp. (taking my giant boots on and off, every time I get in the tent, is a huge chore). Well I have a box of scrap leather, a tool kit, and I just found this video. Instead of buying some shoes I am going to try and make a pair of these instead. Thank you!

Very inspiring and clear, thanks Malcolm. I have tanned a couple of Red deer hides and a shorn sheepskin so it would be good to put some of that to use. I am a little nervous about getting this right. I’ll try a practice run on an old blanket before committing to hide. At worst I will waste some old blanket, and at best I will have some blanket moccasins as slippers as well.

Out here in califorina most tribes from what I have learned wore side seem moccasins, yucca sandals, just went barefoot or never invented shoes of any kind.

I make dogbane (Indian hemp) cordage, and can waterproof with bees wax. Can I sew moccasins with that? Might that be period correct for 1700’s?

You said you were trying to make the video more interesting, but it was plenty interesting. My only suggestion would be to show the details on attaching the tongue-insert to the moccasin more clear. We're missing details on that.

So, I've just now learned the benefits of walking without modern shoes and am looking into all these great tutorials like these, but when I found your video there was something so incredibly nostalgic about your voice and I couldn't figure out what it was! But I just figured it out. When I was about 5 years old, my grandpa used to play all kinds of music and sounds on his old record player for me, but none could compare to the National Geographic flexi-disc that had all the huantingly beautiful humpback whale sounds on it. I loved it so much that he made me a casette tape of it and I used to put it into my little casette player and fall asleep to it every night. You may be wondering, what does this have to do with me? LOL Well, the narrator sounds SO much like you that I had to share it. haha Thanks for bringing back good memories.
