In the fall of 2023, our search for a new source of sweet sorghum syrup ("sorghum molasses") took us to Taylorsville and Foxfire Farm in Alexander County, North Carolina. There we met Randy Holbrook and Bradley Fox, who along with their friends, grow sorghum for pressing and cooking to make syrup every weekend in October. Wife Katie grew up in Kentucky watching sorghum syrup being made the "old-fashioned" way, and years ago, my grandfather helped build the cooker and make sorghum syrup in this same fashion for the Clifford, Virginia Ruritan Club's Annual Sorghum Festival. So we were both familiar with making syrup "out in the country." Randy and Bradley let us watch the operation and even invited us assist with the process. We enjoyed a day of hospitality and fun, and some of the best sorghum syrup we ever tasted. No bitterness or aftertaste. We're using lots Foxfire Farm syrup and no doubt will be making another visit to the farm next fall. Thank you Randy and Bradley! Video music provided by Linwood Campbell. www.linwoodcampbell.com/
