You did a absolutely superb job making those squares,you obviously put a lot of thought into designing and making them,and they really did turn out first rate tools, I'm a 80 year old English man and was a toolmaker by trade for 43 years in the engineering industry for Rolls Royce,and it pleases me no end to see young people with the ability to design and make what are after all very old tools,and you get my 5 ☆ rating

Very Nice additions to your Pantorouter! When you cut the slot of one of the them on the Pantorouter, I said "now he's just showing off" (haha). Just kidding, that was the best way to get the slot perfectly aligned for the Pantorouter!

Marius, if you have a square that is no longer square, you can tune it up. Get a hammer and punch and give the square a solid whack near the corner: at the inside if it's close, at the outside corner if it's open. You want to hit it hard enough to make a dent and displace some metal. Check against your good reference square. I have saved a few junky thrift store squares this way, it costs nothing and only takes a few minutes.

I think it's a good idea to make squares when for use where high quality 'shop standards may be damaged, e.g. rough carpentry. That said, the plastic injection-molded triangles are quite good, but they do shatter easily when they are cold.

Great video Marius, something I really want to make as I never put enough effort into accuracy in my projects. How has the plywood held up since you made these, any warping? I'm debating whether to make some from MDF instead, though I don't think I could make the L shaped style, they would have to be triangular for strength.

the problem with wood, even if one use good plywood, perfectly square today, does not mean perfectly square tomorrow! I did a couple of wood square some years ago, and those days, I use them only to assemble box. But, I did some with aluminum, and they stay square. To avoid that my steel squares rust, I stock them in a drawer with silicagel. Same with my chisel... It works great: no more rust!

Nicely made as always!! But over time the edges will get dinged and nicked making for not such a good straight edge line. Also, even though Baltic birch plywood is good stuff, it is still wood and is not as dimensionally stable as a quality square made from proper material. Lastly, the paint looked almost orange peel in texture. Does that not affect the smoothness of the square edges?

Do you sand all those multiplex surfaces prior to varnishing them? I found that they are pretty rough and oiling them in that rough state consumes three times the oil needed when they are sanded with 120 grit. And of course the surface is much nicer when sanded. The only problem is that I often forget to sand the individual pieces before assembling them and after that it is very hard to sand them properly.
@MariusHornberger

yes, they are sanded to 180 grit.
