Ironically the lost river and lava zone would now be some of the safest areas

I think the problem is that it’s too crowded. It’d be a lot more scary if the area was more “dead”, and leviathans was rarer to see, but the threat of them always having the ability to find you was always there.

As if Subnautica wasn't scary enough

I will always stand by the fact that there needs to be a leviathan that is the size of the aurora.

i don't think i've ever seen anything as terrifying in a video game as that custom water level mod at the end, that legitimately feels like one of my worst nightmares

Wow, a terror game being turned into a horror game. Being one of those people who came from early development Subnautica, I can say, without a doubt, this is how it felt the first time I played through, even before it was on full release.

I think to make it perfect, have Lifepod Unleashed let you sink to the bottom of only the safe shallows and set the Custom Waterlevel to 200 m deeper instead of 10,000. Coming out and realizing that there is light but not much makes the idea of exploring and going deeper way more terrifying in my opinion. Now if only we could get some BZ creatures in here like the Spikey Trap.

Imagine what the devs could do if they made Subnautica like this! I could easily see myself and a few of my friends in a submarine 1000s of meters below the water in complete darkness and silence knowing full well enormous beasts are lurking just out of the reach of our floodlights. If modders can achieve this level of terror with the limited tools they have access to, you'd better believe I'd pay full price for an experience like this released by an actual team of developers.

Still remember the first time I played, I hated the nights so I would camp my base. One night (before I knew about the scanner/aurora) I said “I’m going to be brave and explore the giant ship!” I get there and a creature roars, I paused the game right away. I was terrified but after I unpaused I continued. Then I saw it, the reaper leviathan started chasing me. Never went back there, still nervous about going anyway near there.

Big monsters constantly chasing you like the gargantuan aren’t scary, they’re dangerous. Scary things are hiding in the dark. You know they are there but you can’t see them, they know exactly where you are. That thought terrifies me going into deep oceans even knowing I could solo 2 reapers. You never know if there’s something else out there, perhaps a bigger fish.

Honestly if the a.i. was actually better at targeting other creatures instead of the player this mode would just turn Subnautica into a constant bloodbath. Just imagine you spawn in inside the life pod and immediately hear a sea dragon start throwing hands with one of the eels, exterminating the entire local small fish population in the process. If the creatures couldn't kill you, the complete lack of basic foodstuffs like peepers certainly will.

I was scared to watch this video until I realized you won't die and your commentary and good timing on like moving the screen around to the side or your little character popping up kept my brain distracted from the scary thank *GOOODDD.*

Just went to the aurora for the first time to get MK1 Depth module for the seamoth. The moment I looked down and saw how deep it was, I felt like fucking crying. Immediately yelled in fear. My hands were still shaky even after getting out lmao. Great content man! It's amazing how you reply to all comments, amazing dedication.

I've been thinking about a play through again, now I'm pretty certain it will happen. This game in VR is amazing, probably the best gaming experience ever, with extra creatures why did I never think of this before haha. Great video and will definitely try a couple of these mods.

The mods are back! The game seriously did get scarier. At the end when the Blaza (Aka Big Worm creature) came out of the darkness, even I faltered a bit. Very spooky! Happy Halloween, Bacon! And everyone else!

Despite subnautica being a older game I will always love watching gameplay and youtubers playing it with and without mods. Love the content. Keep it going 😇 also all the mods included for sure makes it more scary and more realistic like with the darker you go down even initially getting out of the life pod

This game was 10000% horror for me. It taught me something tho, turns out I do not have Thalasaphobia, but submechnophobia. Fear of submerged 'human-made' objects, either partially or entirely underwater. For me this included the none-organic alien structures too, amongst finding excape pods or submerged wreckages

Reminds me of a recurring nightmare I used to have before I even played subnautica. In my dream I would be in this dark abyss and there'd be a chain with lights in front of me. I was told via comlink to remain by the chain because "they don't like the light" and I'd hear things swimming around me. Sometimes something would happen to cause me to look away from the chain and I'd look back and it's far away

I would LOVE to see more videos with the water lever UP and the leviathans swimming around.

Funny thing about the lifepod unleashed mod is my friend did the things the mod does without it. I was telling him about how great of a game Subnautica is and then he told me his experience sucked because there was almost nothing around him. Not even the Aurora. After asking some questions and details, turns out his lifepod spawned in the furthest part of the grand reef. I told him it was probably a glitch and that’s not supposed to happen. He is now happily playing both Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero now. The right way this time

I have multiple phobias that have to do with the ocean, but for some reason I love the idea of ocean horror and that last scare honestly got me and made me feel some fear I haven’t in a while. Thanks.

That much water there made me come up with a "subnautica 3" concept: The surface oceans of 4546B are merely a fraction of the oceans on the planet. The overwhelming majority is located beneath the initial tectonic plate, known as the Bottom of the void. Completely devoid of sunlight, the vast expanse of the Inner Void is a place untouched even by the architects. Creatures that live there are nothing alike those in the surface oceans. Life only exists in the Inner Void because of a single plant species, Mirror Root. The plant feeds on nutrients in the ground and gives off trace amounts of light, very similiar to sunlight. Mirror roots can vary in size, from tiny to superleviathan sized specimens. They wrap around cave walls and grow downwards, creating glowing vines. The Inner Void is filled with thermal vents and volcanoes. Creatures that exist within that place are unfathomably large and dangerous. The inner void was completely sealed off from the rest of the planet, untill the aurora crashed onto 4546B. A long time after the crash, the wreck started gradually tilting towards the crater edge, untill it tumbled down enough to start falling. After descending tens of kilometers into the abyss, the aurora impacted the "bottom", creating a hole in it. That hole connected to the Inner Void.
