This watchmaking vlog episode 25 is about continuing making the balance wheel bridge for my watch is based on a modified ETA 6498 movement.
In the first part, I made the tools necessary to complete some very critical dimension recesses in the balance wheel bridge for my watch to get it's beating heart.
This part I use the tools to cut and measure specific parts of the balance wheel bridge. I then compare the dimensions to the original movement.
I made a deadline to complete my watch by the end of June, its a very tight deadline and I will push to meet it.
I use my watchmakers lathe the Cowells SW90 to make the watch parts. In this video, I use very specific watchmaker tools, such as the faceplate, and wax chuck for the lathe.
I use the 0.8mm right hand turning tool I made in the last episode.
All in all I'm really happy with the way my watch is turning out.
Never Give Up!
Thanks for watching.

I also love those dividers. They are very hard to find, I've been looking for a set for years. I've decided to make a set so any close-ups in future videos will be much appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Hi Steve, yes once I finish the movement, hopefully very soon I will do a breakdown of parts for the divider for people. Maybe even make one 🤷🏻‍♂️😁

Hi Dean, good video Mate, if the balance cock jewel hole is not in line with the main plate the balance wheel won't sit level, and the balance won't rotate properly, it will bind on the side of the jewels which will cause low amplitude, also i don't do any heating up while the work piece is mounted in the lathe you will melt the grease in your bearings, you just have to work quickly while it is still hot.
@DeanDK
@DeanDK 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kaz, yeah I’m hoping that most of the hole is concentric and that will make the jewel line up properly 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😂 ahh kk, I’m not too worried, my lathe doesn’t have ball bearing 😁

Thanks for another great video! I would also like to learn more about your dividers. You know, I chuckle, and tear up simultaneously, every time I see the Dykem spots on your Cowells... More tears than chuckles, btw. I so understand the bit of OCD that's not at all uncommon with us engineer/watchmaking/machinist types. Although events like that really do tend to be invaluable for me as I often need reminders about prioritizing my focus - if that makes sense. And, hey, once the watch is complete you may find the time to strip and paint the lathe that perfect hue of blue you've always imagined! Nice job balancing family, career and a serious hobby, not to mention finding time to film and edit.

Absolutely!!! I get it... Keep the content coming. It’s inspirational! I picked up 2 absolutely loaded Boleys 2 weeks ago and a new old stock Emco Compact 5 last weekend. 9 lathes... Ugghhh. I need the inspiration to start making things again! 😂😂😂 BTW, I can probably speak for most of your fans and say we’d be happy with an occasional teaser pic on Instagram and encourage you to film and edit when you can.
