Making the Circle Driveway Wider - 7 More Loads of Gravel Added to the Driveway

Today we are going to widen the circle driveway in front of our house. The driveway isn't wide enough to park on and have enough room to drive around. So we are going to double the width of the driveway and make it 30 feet wide. We are laying down Typar or non-woven Geo-textile and covering that with gravel. We are also making a parking area off one side that we will later cover with a carport.

Thanks for mentioning the approx expense. We built 650' back on 5 acres in Wisconsin and the driveway has been a battle. Snow removal, pot holes, raking, etc... Concrete is the answer, but $$. Now we just have concrete by the house and lime stone screenings to the road. That seems to work pretty good.

I can see if you have a lot of snow removal, that would tear up the driveway.

You can adjust the height of your 3 point hitch so it does not dig in, set it on the lever you lift and lower the hitch with. Works like a charm once you get the right height. also tip the front up a bit with the top link and it will float over loose gravel and smooth like a road grader. Box blades are great but take setting up a bit to get good results.

Something to keep in mind we've used an old metal box spring to level our driveway off.. we've used it to level our hay field after we planted them also...

I know this video is super old but Everytime I watch it I think of another video I watched on a different channel. If you use horticultural vinager on the weeds that come up it will kill them for the spring/summer and fall. It has to be horticultural vinager because it has 20 percent vinager versus 5-6 percent in household vinager. There are videos, I'm sure I the exact formula to use in a sprayer. I saw it on a channel called Fy Nyth. She knows SO MUCH about horticulture in general.

Before I watch this one I wanted to inform you that you can get the cost on raising the pigs down to 72 cents per pound it's not that hard. I have got some down as low as 64 cents. Hang in there if you have a day old bread store close to you you can get a truck load of bread cookies ect for around 12.00 or in some cases free.

Looks good, wondering about longevity with it now. Did you patch that thin section too? Is it working better for you? I want to make a gravel parking pad for my place & I hope to get away with pea gravel, I had an issue with wet conditions & being on the ground. Hoping 2-3" of gravel can make that go away. 1/4 mile drive way with usable circle terminus about 12k. Pretty close to 1700' off road/main hiway good privacy. Thanks for sharing
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
Yea, I didn't show the thin section, I had a lot going on that day. They covered it with a layer of gravel and it helped a lot.

Looks really good. I am no expert by any means, but adjusting the top link on your tractor might help with using the box blade. I am still learning how to use one myself. Right now our driveway on our 35 acre property is just a clay/sand mix (North Florida). Estimated length is probably about half the length of yours (roughly 250 yards). They are going to be re-paving the highway that our property is on and I'm hoping to get a deal on asphalt millings once they get to work on it.
