This is a great video. My "shop" is 24x24 with a 10x16' side room-motorcycle area. I get tired of these videos of 30x50 1 car garage all spotless-yours looks like it's actually used. I've been trying for years to organise mine without spending $100,000 on storage stuff and you gave me a few ideas, thank you.

Happy to hear it was helpful! Yeah, I don't have any high dollar storage solutions, mostly things I've built myself and the few tool boxes. I like doing fabrication and auto repair and a bunch of other stuff in there, so it's a working shop not a show room :) Good luck with your space!

Thanks man, really appreciate the kind words! Metal pegboard is Wall Control brand, it's a bit pricey but way cleaner and holds up really well. Not having to listen to the compressor is soooo much nicer.

FYI I had problems with my concrete in my garage too. I went with a four post lift . I am able to get the wheels off the ground using the rolling bridge jack that came with the lift . You said in your video that with a four post lift you can’t get the wheel off the ground and do work. But that’s not true . So down the road if you are interested in a 4 post lift they do allow wheel removal and suspension work .

True enough, bridge jacks do solve some of that...though underside access isn't quite as good with that setup (nor is mine compared to a 2 post). I also didn't have the height for a 4 post, didn't mention it in the video but I only have 9 feet of clear height (10 feet for most of it, but a beam drops down around a foot across the middle).

Thats crazy that you can squeeze 2 vehicles in 16 feet! I had a 20x20 and it was asses to elbows once i had 2 cars in there. Admittedly one of the vehicles is a 68 cadillac so a boat. But the other one was a 78 buick skyhawk. That thing is smaller than most sub compacts of todays cars. But love the video! Gives me some good ideas!

You’re garage is way to clean. We also need more info on the scissor lift. I’ve been eyeballing both the 2 and 4 post lofts but you’re flush mounted scissor lift has me intrigued.

Yeah, I just like clean/bright/organized workspaces lol honestly though, the white paint on the walls and the lights is what makes it look like that. Check the description, I left a link to my video with all the details on the lift. I absolutely love the form factor, never in the way like a 2/4 post.

I built the workbench myself (all the steel frame and top and everything), just using two Husky Intermediate chests inside of it: www.homedepot.ca/product/husky-standard-duty-27-inch-w-3-drawer-intermediate-tool-storage-chest-in-gloss-black/1000831248 I have an early video on the channel showing some more of it (how to move a lathe easily video).

The stair (steps) into the house could be made as storage. On the lowest step you could mount a flat LED light facing towards the carlift. Nice to have extra light when working on a car. Some kind of wheel system on the pillar drill for easy access to the hardware shelves.

I do keep a floor jack under the steps that I don't use often (my long reach low profile) so it's not entirely wasted...but I didn't ever think about doing some sort of pull out storage from there. What do you mean wheel system on the pillar drill? Not sure I follow?

@@SomeGuysGarage A wide frame or base plate bolted on the pillar drill with 4 low profile wheels that can be lowered when not moving around the drill. The idea is to be able with a easy grip to safely move the pillar drill for easy acess to the corner where your hardware is located. I saw such an arrangement many years ago, but i have no photo of it. I must say you have a real nice garage where you have maximized the space well.

Very nice garage... Curious on the floor temperature? My heater is similar and warms the space but the floor is still very cold

Thanks! The floor definitely isn't as warm as everything else, but gets up to around 15c when air is heated to 20c...no in floor heat or anything, but it has never iced over or anything with moisture. No insulation below the slab, but it is 6 inches of 4500psi concrete. I pretty much never sit/lie on the floor though and my work boots keep my feet warm :) so no biggy.

@@SomeGuysGarage Not really, will watch again n see. Perhaps making a 2 tier shelf high up on the right side if you needed to store smaller stuff high. How do you like the Miller folding welding table, I got two? I’m making a shed to keep my garage clutter free.

@@unfilteredjamaican3478 yeah, there's still some space up high around the perimeter that I haven't touched....considering a mini-split someday for AC above the tool box. The miller folding welding table is awesome, I have a couple of the clamps for it too, works well and stores up really compact. It's no fab table, but great for welding on. I do have a 6x12 shed out back, wheelbarrow, mower, tires, ladders, etc. stay out there :) definitely helps keep space free in the garage. Thanks though, appreciate the ideas :)

Hahah that would be something I'd do...they're a bit of a hodge podge right now, but at one point I had them organized by use (like threading, sockets/ratchets, car specialty, wood, concrete, etc.).

Dealing with a small space myself, so I came here for ideas. Never gave this a thought, but does the "exhaust" fan not have to be ignition-protected? I use three of those cheap-o twin window fans myself (got all of them out of the garbage), but I never thought before about a potential disaster.

I guess it depends what you're doing in there...for welding fumes or car exhaust (not that you should ever run a vehicle while the door is closed) or just general humidity removal it's fine. If you're making a lot of saw dust or using fuel-gas (like oxy-acetylene or even just pouring gasoline) then you'd probably not want to run an exhaust fan in those situations as they're potentially flammable.

I keep my ladders in the shed and basement. Though I used to store my little 5 foot step ladder on the wall with the vinyl hooks (the hooks are stil there), but got annoyed having to pull vehicles out to get to it...so it stays inside now too. The only thing I can't get to without a ladder is the top shelf of bins (which I strategically made things I don't use often), I can reach the first row of bins and anything in the cabinets or above I just climb onto the workbench. So isn't too often I need a ladder.

I did most of the main setup over one summer from empty to painting, benches/cabinets, lift, air system, lights, etc. but then have been refining it and adding on for another 7-8 years making little tweaks and additions.

@@RectanerTreadway Pretty much I just prefer DIY for everything, so no matter what it is I'll give it a try and I figure I can learn it. I'm not going to be pro-level day 1 but have to start somewhere. So if I could give any piece of advice it would be: just go for it! I haven't had any formal education on any of this either, I will do a bit of research online to get the jist of it, and then just figure it out as I go. Things won't always go right, but you learn/adapt faster that way. Also, this isn't something that happens over night...15 years ago I couldn't even install an intake on a car - now I can pretty much fix nay part on a vehicle. Just takes time! Hope that helps :)

I love to try my hand at everything but I am inexperienced in certain areas that are holding me back. Basically 9 feet almost dead on to the bottom of the beam that runs across the ceiling, and around 10 feet to the highest portions (doesn't help with lift). I can lift a normal compact SUV (my Macan or NX) to full lift height even with the door open with a good foot and a bit of clearance.

With the 16 feet left for parking is it super tight? Like can you open the doors on the first car once the 2nd one is pulled in ?

Extremely tight...definitely can't open the door on the first car once the second is in, can barely even get to the door, there's less than a foot between the vehicles.

@@vintagemagiccollector2245 got it, 16 feet you're literally 6 inches off the first wall, vehicle, less than 1 foot, vehicle, and then about 2 feet left for door/walking. It is extremely tight and not fun to use, good luck storing anything against either wall. I'd definitely go 18 feet if you have the ability, but really 20 feet would be more ideal for parking two vehicles and having them accessible. Also, I'm just storing two compact SUVs, if you have Miata's it wouldn't be so bad, if you have F-150's it wouldn't be possible to fit two at all.

Always an option to go up instead of wider, a 16 wide with a lift and 12+ foot ceilings (do a 1 foot stem wall with the foundation with 12' framed on top, so you end up 13ish finished height, keeping that bottom plate a foot up is nice for us here in Canada) is a great option for tucking away two vehicles AND having room to work around one.

Yup, they are 120v single phase on regular 15a circuits. I bought both of them used in Canada, which limited my options. I'd probably go Precision Matthews if I were in the US and buying new.

@@bull7618Thanks! Size wise, these are just about right. I might bump up to a 12x36 if I had more room for the lathe, the bed gets used up pretty fast when drilling with the tailstock. The mill seems about right, though a variable speed with gear head with a bit more torque down low would be nice for larger drilling operations. Had to work with the space and budget I had though (like anyone else).

It's just rubber roll mats you can get by the foot at places like princess auto up here...nothing special.

ha! small, come to England and you'll see that space is huge, my garage is so small i can't even park my family hatchback in it, never mind work on a car in it.

That's a fair point, around here this is small...if I never wanted to park in it, I could do so much more (e.g. CNC plasma or waterjet, larger mills/lathes, proper fab table, etc.)

Your panel is not legal at all. Exposed wire under 7 feet is not legal. The MC cable is OK.

Thank the shitty electrician that wired the house for that. I did all the MC, the rest was the builder's electrician....it passed (somehow, I even talked to the ESA about it but they said it was "to code" at the time) but there's a lot of other stuff I don't like that he did. Watch part 1 of my basement finishing video, I'm sure you can spot a few more terrible electrical things from the builder.
